[www.keralites.net] Simple Ways to Get Noticed at the Workplace

By Shuchita Kapur

Hard work pays off but only if you market it in the most productive way. There's no point in sitting in a corner in the office, sweating it out, waiting for your boss to take notice.

Smart employees work hard and ensure those higher in the hierarchy notice that. Here are some simple ways to get noticed at the workplace and reap the benefits that are sure to follow.

# Let work report say you work

Your boss may not be aware of what all you accomplish on a daily basis so the onus is on you to make him take note. Prepare a small daily work report and show it to your boss and keep the weekly and the monthly reports more elaborate.

This way you will be documenting your work. Your boss will be pleased to see your work and view you as a serious employee, one who finishes the assigned tasks.

If your supervisor has specifically asked you to do something, put that achieved task on the top of the report. All these small reports will come in handy when you have a one-on-one with your boss. Not that he will be unaware, but with these reports, you can remind of your daily work commitments.

# Never skip a meeting

Most meetings are generally a waste of time as many say but never skip it. Attending meetings not only gives the boss an impression that you are punctual but also how seriously you listen to him/her and is interested in team work.

During meetings, listen actively and try to look involved. Take notes about what your boss is saying, give ideas and look interested. This all will show that you are one involved, engaged and productive employee.

# Look happy when given additional tasks

If you find your boss giving you some additional task, take it with a smile. Don't grudge the extra work. Taking a bit of extra workload will show you as extremely productive, capable of finishing your and extra work in the given time framework.

If, however, you think this has become a daily play, handle the boss very carefully, to make him realize that you can't take on extra workload every day.

# Always look busy

It's a very old trick to look serious to be taken seriously and look busy to seem productive. Sitting and bidding your time, waiting for the clock to tick the hour, is how unproductive employees seem like.

Productive and smart employees will not chat endlessly, be on the phone and on social media for personal reasons. You may not be aware but your boss will take note if this is done regularly. So, avoid getting into the non-productive zone and you will not give such an impression.
