Re: [www.keralites.net] Doctors greedy, going to be hated: Health minister ( Maharastra ) Suresh Shetty

What about politicians? There were central defense ministers who had accepted commission even for soldier's coffins!
Why only doctors should become harischandras? They are a cross section of the society. The whole society including the commented minister should become corruption free and committed, then only the nation will develop.
All these parties together are ruling India for the last 67 years. Why didn't they strengthen the public healthcare system? Why do they offer meagre remuneration to govt.doctors snd drag them into corruption? Why dont they spend 15 -17 % of national income on healthcare instead of the 1.7% current expenditure.
. Please don't tarnish doctors and medical profession and dont generalise someone's malpractice at least on this doctor's day.
Comments and criticism should be born from good intention, not from sheer jealousy.

Doctors greedy, going to be hated: Health minister ( Maharastra )  Suresh Shetty : Mumbai: -"I came across a case where someone was charged Rs 13 lakh for delivery and the doctor was still not satisfied," went the first. "There was this case in a big hospital where the doctor recommended one more procedure on a patient who was dead. A ward boy had to inform him the patient was dead," was the next.
"I can narrate a large number of such examples. I am not doing that. I only appeal to doctors to regain trust and respect from people. I had a family doctor, Dr Prabhu at Prabhadevi, who charged only Rs 2 for medicines," Shetty said.
He wondered why heart stents are priced Rs3 lakh. "In government-owned JJ Hospital, stents used to be priced Rs1.40 lakh. After I decided to buy stents through a tender process, the hospital is getting them at Rs23,000. Now, even the central government is buying at our rates," he added.
State health minister Suresh Shetty said,
"Doctors, you're going to be a hated lot. (Your) greed for money is making you overcharge patients."
Health minister Suresh Shetty's fusillade caught the audience at Shanmukhananda hall by surprise on Sunday.
"Like education barons, they (doctors) will become a hated community, if they don't stop unethical practices," Shetty continued.
"About 20 years ago, doctors were respected...That is not the situation today."
