There is a proverb in Malayalam "Theeyil kilirthathu veyyilil Vadilla" meaning what is sprouted in the fire will not wilt in the sun. Attached photo you will find one Thualsi plant that came naturally sprouted from seed in the crevice of the paved granite stone, had established well, despite it is fully exposed to the sun and the sheet rock is so hot you cannot stand on it in the noon. This plant had adopted to the situation by having small leaves in cluster having the "xerophytes" plant characters. Desert plants ecologically have smaller, succulent or leathery leaves with vax or cutin cover on it.
We have other well watered Thulasi plants with good soil profile, but not as healthy as the above plant. It is the natural Law that the fittest survive any odd situation. We are sprinkling the plant with water in the mornings/evenings.
