The Dakshinaarka Sun Temple is located in a place called Gaya in Bihar state. There are many images of Sun god in this temple from many centuries. The very age old ritual of worshipping sun was to offer a handful of water on the river banks and recite hymns before offering it. There are idols and images of sun god here in this temple which might have possibly come from Central Asia region over the period.
The same temple in Iran portrays sun god in a very different form. The Sun god in Gaya is also referred to as Dakshinaarka. The temple is visited by many devotees on Sundays. Near to this temple, there is a Vishnu Paada Temple which is said to have footprints of Lord Vishnu. Other deity idols which are located in this temple are Lord Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu and Durga.
Sunday is the special day of worship. [ Shared from "Save Hindu Temples" ]
