Give a man a fish and you feed him for aday. Teach a Man how to fish and you feed him for a life time. Thats exactly what ateacher has done for us and we celebrate this joyous occasion in remembrance of the greatestteacher of India on His Birthday.

Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan was born on5 September 1888in Tirutani, a well-known religious center in the Madras State. Dr. Radhakrishnan is, indeed, a versatile genius - a great scholar, philosopher, seer, writer, orator, statesman, administrator and above all, a great man. It marks the birth anniversary of former Indian president and teacherDr. SarvapalliRadhakrishnan.

God understood our thirst forknowledge, and our need to be ledby someone wiser; He needed a heart of compassion,of encouragement, and patience;someone who would acceptthe challenge regardless of the opposition;someone who could see potentialand believe in the best in others. So He made Teachers.

It is a universal truth that Teachingis a NOBLE Profession".For the dawn of each poet, each philosopher and king Begins with a teacherand the wisdom they bring.

Today is September 5, which is celebrated as Teachers day in India and it is the birthday of a great teacherDr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the (second) president of India in 1962, some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his birthday. In reply, Dr, Radhakrishnan said, instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5is observed as Teachers day. It was in 1962 whenDr. Radhakrishnan became the President of India that his birthday in September came to be observed as 'Teachers' Day'. It was a tribute to Dr.Radhakrishnan's close association with the cause of teachers. Whatever position he held whether as President or Vice President or even as Ambassador, Dr.Radhakrishnan essentially remained a teacher all his life. The teaching profession was his first love and those who studied under him still remember with gratitude his great qualities as a teacher. The request showed Dr.Radhakrishnans love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, theday has been observed as Teachers dayin India.

Today happens to be the Teachers' Day to commemorate thebirthday of Dr SarvepalliRadhakrishnan, a Teacher par excellence and Statesman. He has left us a legacy ofdedicated Teachers, who are still there some where, hidden and unnoticed.
