Let us all contribute suggestions to manage the situation in such a way that feelings of the people are not hurt and also precious lives are saved.
1 can we have a gun to fire in emergency that would put the elephant to sleep instantly as bullet hits him?
2 we take out poison of snakes. Can we give elephants some medicines to calm down and always remain peaceful like we treat a human being to not to be violent?

Dear Mr. MoniThanks for your comments, which I appreciate. I expect this type of healthy discussions on any issue raised in this forum, not like the abusive ones posted by Aggarwal. I had to use some harsh words to make him understand that his behavior is not acceptable in a civilized society. Now coming to the issue, we cannot compare stampedes or road accidents to deaths caused by elephants. Stampedes and road accidents are caused by humans, which can be controlled by proper implementation of the rules and taking precautions. But elephants do not obey our regulations or rules, and no one can predict animal behavior. Owing to community considerations, I did not want to suggest a ban on elephants at festivals, but raised it an issue for consideration of the people who are knowledgeable about the religious customs.T. Dear Mr MathewI agree with your concerns for welfare of all. In modern world all the old traditions are diappearing. During festivals of any religeon mishaps and loss of lives were also happening. For example stampedes in crowded places, deaths due to Fires and Fire Crackers, Even communal riots and such. The number of deaths due to these mishaps are many folds when you comapre with the number of deaths due problems made by Elephants. In this context, instead of prohibiting Elephants to be exhibited in festivals Govt. should implement strict regulations, same like we are providng guidelines to a motorist while driving on road. ( Even after all these regulations many are dying on road daily!!). We can keep ( with proper control) at least some traditions for our future generation while we stick on to the welfare of all.RegardsMoniFrom: Thomas Mathew thomasmathew47@hotmail.com>

Dear AggarwalYour mindset is as bad as your language which reflect your education and culture. Earlier you got flak from many Keralites for abusing Keralites as a whole, but you have not improvedAs being no authority on Hindu scriptures, I invited a discussion on the topic from persons who know about the scriptures and you reply provocatively. Now I challenge your knowledge about Hindu scriptures. Can you quote from any ancient Hindu scripture prescribing that elephants must be used in temple festivals? If it is there, why elephants are not being used in temple festivals in other parts of India, especially in the north. You talk about tradition, earlier there were sacrifices (Guruti) of animals and even human beings, why it has been stopped. Age old traditions should change if it it is not conducive to the welfare of the people.I am no one to advocate for stopping elephants at festivals. I do not go for temple festivals to be trampled by rogue elephants and none among the 220 people who were killed by elephants during the last three years was my relative or friend. I do not care if you will be one among the 220 in the coming two years; but I share the grief of the relatives of the innocents who lost their lives to the elephants and am concerned that many more will be loosing their lives likewise in the coming days.T. It is not the regular feature, some time it happened, but it does not means, you stop so long long tradition only for this incident.Recently a fire broke-out in Brazil Club and app. 300 people died ( not 3) and more then 500 injured, what will you do? will you stop club or stop using the fire? This is your absolutey useless question for debit. An empty vessel sound much.Ln. P.K. AgrawalFrom: Thomas Mathew thomasmathew47@hotmail.com>

In this context, opinions from knowledgeable persons as to whether elephants are a must for temple festivals are solicited.T.MathewTo: From: jacobthomas_aniyankunju@yahoo.com Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2013 07:38:47 -0800 Subject: [www.keralites.net] The Chain becomes insane--മന്ത്രി ചട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ചങ്ങലയഴിച്ചു; ആനകള് ഇടഞ്ഞോടുന്നു
