If you are going to invite us to dinner or taking us to the theatre, start talking we are listening !!!!!!!!!!!"

If you are not a grandparent you will still love this. If you are, it shows how precious the babies are and what we mean to them.

WHAT IS A GRANDPARENT?
(Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own.
They like other people's.

A grandfather is a man and grandmother is a lady!

Grandparents don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the colours of the flowers and also why we shouldn't step on 'cracks.'

They don't say, 'Hurry up.'

Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don't have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like 'Why isn't God married?' and 'How come dogs chase cats?'

When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television because they are the only grown-ups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack time before bed time, and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we've acted bad.

A 6-YEAR-OLD WAS ASKED WHERE HIS GRANDMA LIVED. ''OH,'' HE SAID, ''SHE LIVES AT THE AIRPORT, AND WHEN WE WANT HER, WE JUST GO GET HER. THEN WHEN WE'RE DONE HAVING HER VISIT, WE TAKE HER BACK TO THE AIRPORT.''

GRANDPA IS THE SMARTEST MAN ON EARTH! HE TEACHES ME GOOD THINGS, BUT I DON'T GET TO SEE HIM ENOUGH TO GET AS SMART AS HIM!

It's funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks, and they blame their dog.

Send this to other grandparents, almost grandparents, or heck, send it to everyone. It will make their day.

[www.keralites.net] DECIDE WITH YOUR HEART...

 Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

Decide with your heart, and then do. Decide with your heart,
And then stay decided until the job is done.

Decide to do what you know is right for you. Then don't let
Anything stop you from getting it finished.

Feel the doubts and fears, and then move forward anyway.
Each time anyone tells you why you can't, remind yourself
Again of why you must.

If circumstances are less than ideal, so be it. You can deal
With the challenges as they come, and move steadily toward
The achievement of what you've decided.

Decide with your heart, and you'll naturally be committed to
That decision. Whatever may come, you'll know you have what
It takes to get the job done.

From the depth of your being, from the truth in your heart,
Decide what you will do. Then delight in the process and in
The fulfillment of getting it done.

Re: [www.keralites.net] Do not complain about petrol prices.

(CRAZY IDEA....!)

IT IS LIKE COMPARING THE PRICE OF SALT AND GOLD... WHILE ADDING SALT TO CURRY,WE NEVER THANK GOD, IT IS SALT THAT IS REQUIRED TO PREPARE CURRY,NOT PRECIOUS GOLD OR DIAMOND...!

COMPARE THE REAL COST OF CRUDE OIL, THE PRODUCTION COST OF PETROL AND DIESEL, (EVEN THE BI-PROCUCTS OBTAINED LIKE PLASTIC Etc, THE REVENUE TO THE CENTRE AND STATE GOVTS BY WAY OF TAX, CEZ AND CUSTOMS AND EXCISE DUTY, THE EXTRA BURDEN ON THE CITIZEN... CONSIDER, THE COST OF OIL IN INTERNATIONAL MARKET OR EVEN THE POLITICS BEHIND THE PURCHASE OF CRUDE OIL FROM INTER NATIONAL MARKET... (LIKE, INDIA GOING BACK FROM THE PIPE LINE CONTRACT WITH IRAN DUE TO AMIRICAN PRESSURE (WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN BENEFICIAL TO INDIA, OR INDIAN GOVT CUTTING THE IMPORT OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS BECAUSE OF AMERICAN SANCTIONS... IS INDIA BEHAVING LIKE A SLAVE OF USA...etc AND IS IT ONE OF THE REASONS FOR THE PRESENT UNJUSTIFIED PRICE HIKE...)

OR COMPARE THE COST OF THESE FUELS WITH THAT OF OUR NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES....!

PLEASE DONT COME UP WITH SENSELESS COMPARISONS, PLEASE...

AM ATTACHING A CHART WHICH I DOWN LOADED FROM A RESPONSIBLE INDIAN VISUAL MEDIA....

Don't complain about petrol prices

Today I filled up my fuel tank,
and I thought petrol has become
really expensive after the price hikes.
But then I compared it with other
common liquids and did some
quick calculations,
and I felt a little better.

To know why,
see the results below you'll be surprised
at how outrageous some other prices are!

Price base -Mumbai
Diesel (regular) : Rs.42.08 per litre

Petrol (regular unleaded) : Rs.79.51 per litre

Milk (mumbai) : Rs.55 per litre (costlier to Diesel)
Coca Cola 330 ml can: Rs.20 = Rs.61 per litre

Cup of coffee at any decent restaurant
150 ml for Rs.25 = Rs. 167 per litre
Dettol antiseptic 100 ml Rs.20 = Rs.200 per litre
Soup at a Restaurant 250 ml: Rs.55 = Rs.220 per litre
Radiator coolant 500 ml Rs.160 = Rs.320 per litre
Pantene conditioner 400 ml Rs.165 = Rs.413 per litre
Medicinal mouthwash like
Listerine 100 ml Rs.45 = Rs.450 per litre

Red Bull 150 ml can: Rs.75 = Rs.500 per litre
Corex cough syrup 100 ml Rs.57 = Rs.570 per litre

Evian water 500 ml Rs.330 = Rs.660 per litre [Rs.660 for a litre of WATER?! And the buyers don't even know the source (Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)]

Kores white-out 15 ml Rs.15 = Rs.1000 per litre

Old Spice after shave lotion
100 ml Rs.175 = Rs. 1750 per litre

Pure almond oil 25 ml Rs.68 = Rs. 2720 per litre

And this is the REAL KICKER...

HP desk-jet colour ink cartridge 21 ml Rs.1900 = Rs. 90476 per litre!!!

Now you know why computer printers are so cheap? So they have you hooked for the ink!
The next time you're at the pump, don't curse our Petroleum minister just be glad your car doesn't run on cough syrup, after shave, coffee, Pantene conditioner or God forbid, printer ink!
You can find peace in all your problems.
I found one in Petrol pricing.

[www.keralites.net] MAATAA MEENAKSHI AND PETER PANDIYAN ( British Collector )

Maataa Meenakshi and Peter Pandiyan

Since our navaratri theme this year is Mother Meenakshi, let me write about HER MAJESTY, the Empress of Madurapuri.... A real life incident to show her care towards her children. Meenakshi appeared as a three-year-old girl three times in History. First during the Puthirakamestshi yagna- (her actual incarnation), next during the aranketram of Meenakshi Ammai Pillai Tamil by Kumaraguruparar(during the regign of Tirumalai Naicker) and Latestly before Rous Peter - during the British rule.

The East India Company was actually ruling Tamilnadu during 1812 and Rous peter was the Collector of Madurai. Rous Peter was kind hearted person and respected and treated people of all faiths equally.

Unlike other English officers, Peter cared a lot for the welfare of the people. He also restored peace, prosperity and justice in Meenakshi's Pattanam (Madurai).. The people had a great regard for Peter and felt that he is equal to the Great Pandiyan Kings. Because of this attitude, the people called him with the popular name Peter Pandian.

As a district Collector, he was not only in charge of the temple town, but also for the Temple administration. Peter had the habit of going around the temple everyday before beginning his daily work.

One night the city experienced huge thunder storm with lightning. Peter was inside his bungalow in deep slumber.. Suddenly a three-year-old girl appeared at his residence and dragged Rous Peter by his hand outside the house. As soon as they left the compound, a lightening struck the building and the bungalow collapsed to pieces and destroyed the room, where the collector was sleeping.

Everything happenned within few seconds... Peter was takenaback and was in total shock. Soon he came back to himself, and found the mysterious little girl walking away.

He immediately followed her... though he ran after her, he could not keep up with the girl. The tiny tot always seemed to be the same distance away in front of Peter, however fast he walked.

She playfully entered the Meenakshi Temple and went straight to the Sanctum Sanctorum of Meenakshi... and right in front of his eyes... there she disappeared.

Peter was sure that the empress Herself has come in the form of that mysterious girl... For Shri Matha everyone - including Peter is her Child. The Ruler Meenakshi had come to save a good man from calamity.

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net
Peter was ever-grateful to Mother Meenakshi and donated many jewellery and other gifts to the Minakshi Temple. Among which, a notable one is a set of golden stirrups studded with diamonds and red stones to the temple for use on the idol of Sree Meenakshi when taken in procession in the streets of Madurai.

He also wished that after his death he should be buried in a position that enabled his eyes to face the temple. It is interesting to note that Rous Peters grave is positioned the way he wished while the pther graves faces the other way.

The stirrups offered by Peter Pandiyan adorns the Horse Vaahanam on the day of procession. Even now this is used when Goddess Meenakshi riding the horse is taken out during festival days. He also donated a Jade necklace which is still preserved, in the temple museum.

Re: [www.keralites.net] Religion for what?{please read}

Dear all,
Religion and Politics, Religion and Art, nice discussion on this topic and in this forum. I would like to add my view point.

Why Religion came into existence whether it is Sanatana Dharma, Budhism, Jainism, Christianity, Islam, etc. The main purpose of our prophets was to spread love and harmony and show the people the correct way to lead our life. No one ever said one was superior or other was inferior, they only conveyed their point of view. It is we the followers who have differentiated and shown intolerance towards each other. Some perversive minded peoiple and politicians who have created divides and hatred between people and gave the names as crusade, Jehad and other things to justify their action. The MF Hussain's of this could have portrayed anything in the name of Art but should have respect for others feelings and sentiments as he/she cannot infringe into others sentiments and hurt by portraying them in bad shape in the name of Art. Similarly certain things should be prohibited for portrayal in the name Art. If restraint is applied then these kind of unwanted things can be avoided. Now we are in Global village in the age of internet what one does affects another. So lets be responsible Global Citizens respecting the feelings and sentiments of all of brothers and sisters.

Mogan,
Your idea is great...
But religion and politics are like identical twins - both are business, crave for money and power, both give immense protection and cover up ( do whatever you fantasize and assert you did it in the name of religion or God... you are okay ! )

As Velupillai put it 'touching the inner self ' is tedious, selfless and worse still anti-propagandist . Hence it is not a sell out among exhibitionist religiosity; most important no power attached to it ( " what do I benefit ?" ). My humble experience ( and rule of thumb) is 'you can completely trust and rely on a person who never talks about religion - he will be down-to-earth honest; never want to hurt you; absolutely never think about hurting you or killing you.
And I admit my brain is too small to engulf the magnanimity incorporated in the concept of God - just human.

The comments so far seems universal, to which I and alot others would subscribe to. That said, my reply to ICS Menon about the " great painter " M F Hussain would be this, why did he choose to paint about the " GODS " of one particular community? He would have been a great painter if he had gone on to paint the " GODS " & the prophets of all the other religions and communities in the way he did for the " GODS " of this particular one community. Q - Why did he not do so ? & and equally important why only a small minority protested. Yes, " we are all human beings. We cannot think and do like animals with no judging powers ". Now, which takes precedent being a Human Being or Religion and its GOD(S)? The problem starts when Religion and GOD(S) is placed in the forefront and humanity is lost to the people. My GOD says this, my religion preaches this and therefore I would do so accordingly, without for once reasoning out whether it is right to do so as a Human Being.
If as Abraham PC quotes the bishop " We all represent as people from the world. There is no religion, no nation or any such.". Would it not be beautiful if there had been no preaching , no need for conversion, no need to highlighting my "GOD" is greater or better than your "GOD". (do not the religions of India follow this, and they are at peace at least religiously ). GOD of what ever faith cannot be more than ONE. Individual need to analyse his GOD within oneself and move from religion on to the path of spirituality, which is a thougher path. I believe it is only on the path of spirituality would there be acceptance that we are all Human Beings born into this world with a destiny to seek and reach the ONE GOD that has placed us all in this world. Only on this path would we see the acceptance that each religion is equal to and not inferior to the other and that all these religious path are towards spirituality. It cannot be said that there would be no movies, no cartoons, no paintings, and no infidel labelling etc. This will continue so long as Human Beings are caught in the circle of ego and superiority of one's religion and are not able to move out of its hold.

" AN interesting debate as it seems to project their views as the eyes sees only what it knows. Like wise, religion is outbound requiring an external force seeking for salvation by mercy which is unknown and spirituality is inbound to know who you are within through subtle will experiencing inner bliss. Once you know or touched the inner being, the rest is secondary because the soul is eternal, omnipresent and in wisdom its infinity...Aum "

I remember this incident of the past with full respect. When we first reached Moon, our Bishop said, Now we all represent as people from the world. There is no religion, no nation or any such. How great this view is. We are just human being. We cannot think or do like animals with no judging power. One side we try to break the world records and achievements and other side we are beating the worst crime records. What a contrast?
