[www.keralites.net] 20 TREATMENTS FOR LOWERING FEVER

20 Treatments for Lowering Fever

A fever is when the body's temperature rises beyond what is healthy. This can be caused by infection or disease of certain types. Although there are times when it's best to let the body deal with it, a fever is an uncomfortable thing to say the least. So before you run out and get those pills, here are some natural remedies that have been sworn to work:

1. Take 7-8 leaves of basil and 3-4 grains of black pepper and chew them together. The two spices are very good at lowering fever.

2. Soak basil leaves in boiling water and drink 3-4 times a day, until the fever comes down.

3. In a pot of water, mix a half spoon of cinnammon, 2 seeds of cardamom and two spoons of ginger powder. Bring to a boil, filter and drink.

4. Make a warm bath and add a few drops of vinegar.

5. Dip a towel in hot water, squeeze and put on your head. Wet the towel from time to time.

6. It's important to drink a lot of water during a fever, but we recommend boiling them first to prevent further contamination.

7. Drink a glass of milk, and better if it's whipped. You can whip it so: Take two glasses and pour milk to one, pass the milk between the glass vertically. Do so several times until it is whipped and then drink.

8. At night, go to sleep with warm clothes and a warm blanket. During sleep you may sweat, but don't take off the blanket. You need to let the body sweat. You'll need to keep drinking water over the night so as not to dehydrate, but it will help the fever come down. This works because the sweat expunges toxins from the body, so the more you sweat, the quicker you'll heal.

9. Mix 4-5 cups of vinegar and 2 cups of luke warm water in a bowl. Dip a clean towel in the bowl and squeeze it. Tie the strap of cloth around your ankle.

10. Crush two teeth of garlic and mix with 2 table spoons of olive oil. Heat the mix and spread of both feet. Wrap with plastic wrap and stay like this for the night. Stay with it for an hour after you feel the fever come down.

11. Cut a potato into slices and dip each slice in vinegar for 10 minutes. Put the slices on your forhead and put a towel on top.

12. Drink a brew of boiling water with lemon, honey and ginger, several times a day.

13. Put half an onion on each ankle and tie with cloth.

14. Wear warm clother and bundle up well. Boil water in a bowl and soak your feet for 20 minutes. Don't stop because you're sweating, because it's crucial for your fever drop. Just remember to drink lots of water.

15. Mix lemon juice with olive oil and smear it on your body.

16. Dip a pair of soaks in white vinegar and put them on. Wrap the body in a warm blanket and rest.

17. Mix half a spoon of saffron in a glass of boiling water. Let it cool and take a spoon from the saffron mix every hour until the fever comes down.

18. Mix water and vinegar in equal amounts. Dip a cotton ball in the mix, squeeze and put on your forehead for several minutes.

19. Eat an orange. An orange gives you immediate energy, it makes you pee and stregthens the immune system. The grapefruit also has anti-feverish advantages, and so it is also recommended to mix half a cup of grapefruit juice with water and drink.

20. Eat green vegetables to detox your body, and avoid fatty or spicy foods that can elevate your temperature.

[www.keralites.net] USE TURMERIC BEFORE EVER SWALLOWING ANOTHER IBUPROFEN AGAIN

Use Turmeric Before Ever Swallowing Another Ibuprofen Again

health-benefits-of-turmeric
- See more at: http://fitlife.tv/use-turmeric-before-ever-swallowing-ano…/…

Turmeric has proven itself more to be more than just effective in cooking, but as a natural pain reliever as well! Turmeric has been proven recently in a study to beat ibuprofen for arthritis of the knee!
An extremely exciting new clinical trial published recently in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine has revealed that an effective natural alternative to the popular painkiller ibuprofen exists for the treatment of knee Osteoarthritis, and it comes in the form of a kitchen spice. The spice has proven itself to be far more superior in safety and the number of side effects. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. The polyphenol in turmeric known as curcumin has been studied to have over 600 health benefits.
In a Lancet review last year, ibuprofen was found to be as toxic to the heart as the banned anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx, it has likely contributed to tens and thousands of deaths from cardiovascular disease each year. This is an important factor to why evidence-based natural alternatives are extremely important, especially when they involve culinary spices that are already known to be safe, affordable, accessible, and time-tested.
A study titled efficiency and safety of curcuma domestic extracts in patients with knee Osteoarthritis. TH atrial was conducted with 109 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis who were randomized to receive 800mg a day of ibuprofen or 2,000 mg of turmeric per day, for a period of six weeks.
The researchers measured pain, on walking, stairs and basic functions of the knee assessed by time spent during 100-m walk and going up and down a flight of stairs, as the primary outcomes.
After six weeks, significant improvements were observed in both groups, with all primary outcomes similar, except the turmeric group showed slightly better performance on the 100-m walk and less self-reported pain going up an down a flight of stairs, Also, the turmeric group showed less adverse events. The subjects rated themselves to have higher satisfaction with the treatment results in the turmeric group versus the ibuprofen group.
It should also be noted that patients in the ibuprofen group rated themselves as having little or no satisfaction, but not even one person in the turmeric group rated themselves as anything other than satisfied.
Lastly, they observed a distinct trend toward a greater effect in the patients receiving turmeric than the ibuprofen.
Dried rhizomes of C. domestica were grounded into powder. The turmeric powder was extracted with ethanol and then evaporated at low pressure to obtain ethanolic extracts containing oil and curcuminoids. The oil part was then removed in order to have curcuminoids extracts. Each capsule of C. domestica extracts contained 250 mg of curcuminoids."

[www.keralites.net] MARCH 23RD TRIBUTE TO BHAGATH SINGH, RAJGURU, SUKHDEV

MARCH 23RD TRIBUTE TO BHAGATH SINGH, RAJGURU, SUKHDEV

Fun & Info @ Keralites.net

An indebted nation pays rich tribute to its martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru who sacrificed their lives for the country sixty nine years ago on March 23, 1931. March 23 is observed as Martyrs' Day to remember the significant contribution of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and other important revolutionaries, who paved the way for the independence of the country.

Whenever we recall the freedom struggle in India, the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru will automatically comes to our mind. They were great patriots of the country who had launched an effective struggle to root out the British rule from the country. They undergone a lot of hardships and sacrificed their lives for the motherland. They were the real sons of this soil and fought till death, without giving up before the oppressing British rule. Many followed their footsteps and further accelerated the freedom movement, which ultimately culminated into Independence. It was only because of their sacrifices that our country has attained its present status.

"Bhagat Singh, along with Sukhdev and Rajguru were hanged to death on March 23, 1931.On his way to gallows he said to the officer, you are very fortunate to witness how revolutionaries smilingly embrace death for the love of their country. "Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru will be remembered forever for their selfless service to the mother India. They took up the armed struggle, and fought against the British administration, but they never caused any harm to the common people. They fought for the people and for the freedom. The heroic spirit of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev is an unfailing source of inspiration for the youth of the country. These three inspired the theme of young and modern India and millions of youths in the country see them as icons and role models even today. Their contribution, ideals, slogans and thoughts are as relevant today as they were earlier. Their courage, spirit of adventure and patriotism are an example to be followed by one and all."

We are very fortunate and we should be proud that we are born in this great country where brave youth like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Sukhdev, and Shaheed Rajguru sacrificed their lives for the sake of our freedom. The sacrifices of such great people could not be ignored, which had secured freedom for the country and its people. We have to learn a lot from the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. We should also imbibe the qualities of the great martyr in their day to day life.

Take a pledge on this day and always to protect the hard earned freedom of the country at any cost and frustrate the evil design of the forces that are bent upon to destroy the integrity of our country. Shun evils like Dowry, poverty, gender inequality, drugs, human inequality, child labour, prostitution, and many more. Every individual needs to take steps in order to make India a better place to live. Come on; let's help to make a clean and green country, and work for national integrity and peace for the development of the country". "This would be the true tribute to our martyrs,

My mind raced back to my school days when I learnt a Hindi poem by Pt. Makhanlal Chaturvedi called "PUSHP KI ABHILASHA".The lines of the poem have got etched in my mind. The poem accurately represents the pride and passion for the nation. I find these lines very close to my heart. This poem tells us dedication and patriotism towards our country. The stanza of the poems are really soul stirring. Salute to him who wrote these lines and salute to them who shed their blood for our great motherland

Pushp Ki Abhilasha

Chah Nahin Mai SurBala Ke
Gehnon Mein Guntha Jaaon
Chah Nahin Premi Mala Mein
Bindh, Pyari Ko Lalchaon
Chah Nahin Samraton Ke
Shav Par, He Hari Dala Jaaon
Chah Nahin Devon Ke Sar Par
Chadhon, Bhagya Par Itraoon
Mujhey Tod Lena Banmali,
Us Path Par Tum Dena Phaink
Matra Bhoomi Per Sheesh Chadhaney,

Translation:
The Yearning (desire) of a Flower

I don't want to be a part of the necklace of the beautiful girl,I don't want to woo the lady love,I don't want to be spread over dead bodies,I don't want to act snob, after someone offers me to the Gods.
Just pluck me Gardner and throw me on the road, which is taken by the brave soldiers to give away their lives for the Motherland !

I pray for the flower's wish to be granted.*Peace*

How great were those patriots, How great was their pride, For those who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

Let us pay our rich tributes to the martyrs.

Perhaps this tribute of mine won't be able to add anything new or glorious to their life but yet my heart rending love respect and it shall remain till the last breath.

[www.keralites.net] 8 HEALTHY SNACKS TO LOWER CHOLESTEROL

8 Healthy Snacks To Lower Cholesterol

Cholesterol is not in real a villain.
It is a fatty substance needed by the body to produce hormones, Vitamin D and bile acid (help digest fat). However, when you have too much cholesterol in your blood, it accumulates in the arteries (medically called, atherosclerosis) leading to heart disease and stroke.
If you are suffering from high cholesterol and want to lower the levels remember every bite that you eat counts.
Your daily meals, those harmless snacks in-between meals and the food items you pop out of boredom – all of these affect your cholesterol levels. No worries! Below is a list of healthy snacks that you can safely consume instead of biting into cookies, doughnuts, chips and other processed foods.
Popcorn – this 100% whole grain snack is packed with high fiber and different nutrients. It is a good daily source of fibre, which is believed to lower your bad cholesterol. Additionally, it is low in calories, promotes digestive health and help control blood sugar levels and prevent Type 2 diabetes. Microwave or air pop it without oil and do not add the butter/ salt toppings.
Nuts – a handful of nuts like almond and walnut mixed with dried fruits makes for a good healthy snack. They are proven to lower LDH cholesterol and to raise HDL cholesterol.
Soya Based Snacks – soya is naturally cholesterol-free and low in saturated fat. It helps reduces LDL by a small percent but also has additional benefits as it is a good source of protein, fiber, and heart-healthy omega-3s. Soya cutlets or tikkies are a healthy as well as delicious alternative to fulfill your in between meals hunger pangs. However, too much soya is not good for the body.
Low Fat Yogurt – yogurt being an excellent source of protein and calcium is a healthy option for your 11 AM food break. You can try topping it with fruits such as apples, apricots, berries, plums and peaches as well which may reduce cholesterol and are high in soluble fiber. Yogurt is perhaps one of the best probiotic products.
Oats – After a long day at office when you are back home really hungry instead of reaching out to junk foods it is wise to eat oat snacks. Soluble fiber helps in the reduction of the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream. Oatmeal is full of soluble fiber.
Avocado (Makhanphal) – studies show that eating just an avocado a day can significantly lower cholesterol levels. They form an excellent source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat that is easily burned for energy. It is also low in fructose.
Barley – a whole grain that has been shown to have many healthy benefits including lowering cholesterol levels because of the presence of beta glucan fiber. It is also known to be reducing blood sugar and insulin levels. Go for barley biscuits during you tea and coffee breaks.
Fresh Vegetable Salad – veggies are full of cholesterol-lowering antioxidants that will help keep you healthy. Include salad of antioxidant rich vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, carrot, tomatoes daily along with your meals or consume when you are hungry.
Changes in your food habits is a very essential step to lowering cholesterol levels. Backing it with regular physical activity and maintaining your weight will help you lead a happy, healthy life.
