SIGNIFICANCE OF AKSHAYA THRUTHEEYA
The word Akshaya means 'that which never diminishes' and the day is ideal for beginning new ventures and so auspicious that one does not need any special time or mahurat to start new things. Anyone can start any new and good work on this day. Birthday of Parashurama , who is Chiranjeevi (Immortal), celebrated on this day, the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. Lord Parashurama was known for his ardent devotion towards his parents. So on this day Maha Vishnu is to be worshipped during Pradosha time (1½ hrs before sunset). It is a custom and tradition since time immemorial to worship Lord Sri Varaaha and Lord Sri Naarasimha on this sacred day of Akshaya Thrutheeya. At Simhachalam Sri Varaaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, special celebrations are held on this sacred day when a unique ritual called Chandanotsavam will be held. It is only on this particular day in the year, the Lord gives darshan in Nija roopa without any decoration which is otherwise always fully covered with Chandana (sandalwood paste).
Nowadays, in all over India there are scores of advertisements declaring that buying of Gold on this day would make you rich. And there is a mad rush for buying Gold on this day, that I find everywhere. In recent times a tradition has cropped up even in South India where there are scores of advertisements declaring that buying of Gold on this day would make you rich. For many, Akshaya Tritiya is more than just about the yellow metal. Buying of Gold and Jewellery items is certainly not listed in the Vedic scripts and this day doesn't mean gold buying day but it is considered to be the single most powerful day for charities. There is no point in simply celebrating the festival; one should understand the significance and the spirit behind it.
This is a day when the Sun and the Moon are at their most lustrous state, that is considered most auspicious for any charity and benevolent acts. Giving charity and performing sacred deeds is indeed recommended and prescribed on this day of Akshaya Thrutheeya that will produce multifold meritorious results.
The hand that gives is the hand that gathers" is a timeless truth, and the incident between Kuchela and Krishna clearly illustrates that an offering can be efficient, only when it is accompanied by the two required conditions; with clean and pure heart. One of the important secrets to manifesting material success is first to give with a clean heart with out any judgemental. Many times we avoid giving by finding fault with the person who is seeking. However, being judgmental and rejecting a person on the presumption that he may not be the most deserving, is not justified.Give without being judgmental!"
Coming to the manner of giving, one has to ensure that the receiver does not feel humiliated, nor the giver feels proud by giving. In giving, follow the advice 'Let not your left hand know what your right hand gives? Charity without publicity and fanfare is the highest form of charity.''Give quietly!'
While giving, let not the recipient feel small or humiliated. After all, what we give never really belonged to us. We come to this world with nothing and will go with nothing. The thing gifted was only with us for a temporary period. Why then take pride in giving away something which really did not belong to us?Give with grace and with a feeling of gratitude.
Satisfaction and contentment are the two wheels of life chariot.Be content with what you have but don't ever be content with your knowledge, self improvement and charity. We make a living by what we get. But we make a life by what we give. As a balanced individual you have to direct the passion for possession into a desire for the best gifts. You must desire to possess not for impressing others but for distributing your gifts for the benefit of the public. You must acquire riches but you must share them with your fellowmen.
"The fragrance also stays with the hand that gives the rose and the hand that receives the beautiful gift is filled with wonder. God Almighty, thus, blesses both the giver and the receiver."Give with joy.Do care for the poor and needy, the result you will get in multiple ways of happiness. Akshaya, the ever lasting bowel may be with you for ever.
"Let noble thoughts come to me from all directions"
