Health hassles of film stars
Stars falling ill around the time of a new film has its pros and cons.
AMITABH BACHCHAN 1982 BOLLYWOOD literally came to halt when the Big B, while shooting an action scene in Manmohan Desai's Coolie on July 26, was accidentally hit the wrong way by co-star Puneet Issar. The superstar suffered near-fatal intestinal injury and spent months in hospital. The stunt required the Big B to fall onto a table and then on the ground. The table corner struck his abdomen resulting in a splenic rupture. Coolie went onto become a blockbuster on release in 1983.
SALMAN KHAN 2011 ON Monday night, Salman left for the US to seek treatment for trigeminal neuralgia that causes acute pain in the jaw and face. The declaration of his illness came two days before the Eid release of Bodyguard. He has over Rs 250 crore riding on him with biggies such as Kabir Khan's Ek Tha Tiger, Sher Khan and Kick. None of these films should however be delayed.
RAJNIKANTH 2011 RANA, the new film starring Rajnikanth, had just gone on floors when the Tamil superstar collapsed on the set. He fell sick twice over past six months. Initially he was hospitalised in India. Later, it was learnt that he has a kidney-related problem. Rajni was flown to Singapore where he spent six weeks in hospital. The Rs 100-crore film has been rescheduled and Rajni may resume shooting in October.
SAIF ALI KHAN 2007 SAIF was rushed to the hospital in February 2007 when he complained of unbearable chest pain after performing at an awards function. The actor reportedly had a minor heart attack and doctors cited stress and heavy smoking as reasons. He had also just split with his then girlfriend Rosa Catalano. Saif's film Eklavya opened two days before the incident but flopped. Shooting of films such as Race and Tashan were affected.
