Stress has become part & parcel of our life, a normal feeling that everybody feels from time to time. A certain amount of stress can be helpful as it motivates us .Stress becomes bad when it interferes with daily activities, relationships, physical and mental health. Contrary to belief even very young children can experience stress. So how is a parent to know that their child is stressed out

Why do children feel stress ?

Many children may have to cope with divorce of the parents, constant changes in schools, conflict within the family, peer pressure and sometimes even violence in their homes or communities.

The impact of a stressful event depends on the child's maturity, nature, personality and style of coping. They may have difficulty expressing their feelings. Instead of saying I feel overwhelmed they might say my stomach hurts or my head hurts. Some children may cry, become aggressive, irritable, and talk back, show anger problems, decreased appetite, nightmares, clinginess or whining.

What can parents do?
Parents play a valuable role in trying to keep the harmful effects of stress ta a minimum
Make sure the child gets enough rest
Parents should monitor their own stress levels. They need to be particularly aware when their own stress levels contribute to marital conflict.
Frequent fighting between parents is unsettling for children
Ensure good communication .Kids feel better about themselves when the relationship with their parents is loving and open
Parents should encourage friendships
Children of all ages need time to relax and play
Anticipate potentially stressful situations and prepare your child for them
Let the child know that some level of stress is normal and that it is Ok to feel angry, scared or lonely sometimes

Dear Mr. Jaison,

It is quite difficult to go to Dubai without cancelling your old visa. Better you can send your passport to your existing visa holding company and they have to cancel that. Otherwise it will be a nightmare.

മംഗലാപുരം വിമാനാപകടം: എയര്‍ ഇന്ത്യക്ക് നോട്ടീസ്

ന്യൂഡല്‍ഹി: മംഗലാപുരം ബജ്‌പെ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലുണ്ടായ അപകടത്തില്‍ മരിച്ച 158 പേര്‍ക്കും 75 ലക്ഷം രൂപ വീതം നഷ്ടപരിഹാരം നല്‍കണമെന്ന അപേക്ഷ പരിഗണിച്ച സുപ്രീംകോടതി എയര്‍ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് നോട്ടീസയച്ചു. മരിച്ചവരില്‍ 48 പേര്‍ മലയാളികളാണ്. ഇതില്‍ 43 പേരും കാസര്‍കോട് ജില്ലക്കാരാണ്. 2010 മെയ് 22നാണ് ദുരന്തമുണ്ടായത്.

ദുബായില്‍നിന്ന് വന്ന എയര്‍ ഇന്ത്യാ വിമാനമാണ് വിമാനത്താവളത്തില്‍ ഇറങ്ങുന്നതിനിടെ കൊക്കയിലേക്ക് വീണ് തീപ്പിടിച്ച് ദുരന്തമുണ്ടായത്. രണ്ട് മലയാളികളടക്കം എട്ടുപേര്‍ അത്ഭുതകരമായി രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു. രാജ്യംകണ്ട ഏറ്റവും വലിയ വിമാന ദുരന്തങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് ഇത്. ആറ് ജീവനക്കാരടക്കം 166 പേരാണ് വിമാനത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. മരിച്ചവരില്‍ 32 സ്ത്രീകളും 19 കുട്ടികളും നാല് കൈക്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളും ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്നു.

എയര്‍ ഇന്ത്യാ എക്‌സ്പ്രസ്സിന്റെ ഐ.എക്‌സ് 812 വിമാനമാണ് അപകടത്തില്‍പ്പെട്ടത്. റണ്‍വേയില്‍ ഇറങ്ങുന്നതിനിടെ നിയന്ത്രണംനഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടാണ് അപകടം. റണ്‍വേ ലൈനിനപ്പുറമാണ് വിമാനം നിലംതൊട്ടത്. വിമാനത്താവളം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കുന്നിന്‍മുകളില്‍നിന്ന് 200 മീറ്റര്‍ താഴ്ചയുള്ള കൊക്കയില്‍വീണ വിമാനം നാലായി പിളര്‍ന്നു. വന്‍ അഗ്‌നിബാധയാണ് ഉണ്ടായത്. യാത്രക്കാര്‍ തല്‍ക്ഷണം മരിച്ചു. ദൂരെ തെറിച്ചുവീണ മധ്യഭാഗം തീപ്പിടിച്ചില്ല. ഇതിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നവരാണ് രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത്.

സെര്‍ബിയന്‍ വംശജന്‍ ഗ്ലൂസിക്കയായിരുന്നു പൈലറ്റ്. മറ്റ് ജീവനക്കാര്‍ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരും. ജീവനക്കാരാരും രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടില്ല. രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തിന് എത്തിയവര്‍ക്ക് വെന്തെരിഞ്ഞ മൃതദേഹങ്ങളുടെ കൂമ്പാരമാണ് കാണാനായത്. ചെളിയില്‍ പൂണ്ടുപോയ ചിലമൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ പുറത്തെടുക്കാന്‍ പ്രയാസപ്പെടേണ്ടിവന്നു. തകര്‍ന്നുവീണ ഇടം കുറ്റിക്കാടായതും രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തെ ബാധിച്ചു. വിമാനഭാഗങ്ങളിലെ തീ കനത്ത മഴയെ തുടര്‍ന്ന് അല്പം ശമിച്ചെങ്കിലും മഴനിലച്ചതോടെ ആളിക്കത്തി.

ദുരന്തം നടന്നയുടന്‍ നാട്ടുകാരും അഗ്‌നിശമനസേനാവിഭാഗവും പോലീസും മറ്റ് സുരക്ഷാവിഭാഗവും രംഗത്തെത്തി. നഗരത്തിലെ സര്‍ക്കാര്‍സ്വകാര്യ ആസ്?പത്രികളില്‍നിന്ന് മെഡിക്കല്‍ സംഘങ്ങളും കുതിച്ചെത്തിയെങ്കിലും കാര്യമായി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാനില്ലായിരുന്നു.

കണ്ണൂര്‍ കുറുമാത്തൂര്‍ സ്വദേശി മായിന്‍കുട്ടി ഒരു പോറല്‍പോലുമേല്‍ക്കാതെ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ടത് അത്ഭുതമായി. ഉദുമ മാങ്ങാട്ടെ കൂളിക്കുന്ന് കൃഷ്ണനാണ് പരിക്കുകളോടെ രക്ഷപ്പെട്ട മറ്റൊരു മലയാളി.
