Dear Mr Menon,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

We have found CHANGE THE WAYS, the FB Group, only with a view to put a base to do some social activities.  We have now started the Trust under the same name - CHANGE THE WAYS TRUST (CTW).  Our maiden venture is to set up a Pilot Project through MODEL VILLAGE PERINGANNUR on successful completion of which can spread to other villages anywhere in India or the world.

We have started with providing Education to the deserving and needy children of the village on holidays ie Saturdays and Sundays plus other public holidays between 3 and 5 pm in the only Public place in the village - the Grameena Vayanasala, a 70 years old 100/150 sq. ft old building which itself need renovation as early as possible.  We are also about to start Organic Farming through a 70 cent plot with an eye to start a co-operative in the village.  The second stage is to start Kitchen Garden in the households so that the village does Organic Farming maximum.  An Inter-action meeting is being organised on 22nd November 2015 at 2pm at the Grameena Vayanasals premises and our experts in Organic Farming, Mr PK Baputty - HOPE Agriculture, Malappuram and Ms Sreeja Arangottukara a known social activist and organic farming expert too - would be addressing the attendance.  We are also starting the Career Guidance Classes for the X/XII standard students in GHSS, Chathanur plus sports.  We are expecting many dignitaries to attend the meeting who may be able to support the MISSION.

We are doing a village survey before finalising the Long Term Plans which should be done by March 2016 when we can know the pulse of the villagers and their needs.  Our vision about a MODEL VILLAGE to make the village a self-sufficient one by all means.  Today the village don't have any basic amenities such as the services of a Doctor or a School or a Bank or anything for which they have to atleast travel 4 kms.

We did create the base by having nearly 13,000 (12,700+) members and rapidly growing group.  What we look forward is people like you to step in and strengthen it.  We believe very strongly in the adage, "UNITY is STRENGTH".  Copy marked are my colleagues in this.

Love and regards

Dear Sadanandan

Really appreciate your response and the thought. While I am sure both of these efforts share a common end goal to a great extend, difference is in the operations. mehelp.org is more of or pretty much only a medium for supporting poor and needy, at least for now. Meaning, we do not accept donations directly unless there is an exception, rather are just felicitating the help at this point. Hope you understand. Having said, please feel free to report any specific cases that you would need support from around the world.

Thank you
MK Menon

Dear Mr Menon,

Why don't we do it together through CHANGE THE WAYS - a 12,600+ growing rapidly group in FB found for this purpose only and a registered Trust now.  We have taken up as our maiden venture MODEL VILLAGE PERINGANNUR.  The idea is setting up a Pilot Project on successful completion of which could be emulated anywhere.  We have already started Education programme for the deserving needy children in Peringannur taking classes on the Saturdays and Sundays; Organic Farming in both Plots and Households; and Career Classes for the X/XII students in GHSS Chathanur.  Kindly see:

Friends

My name is MK Menon, living in Bangalore, India now, recently started a non-profit initiative called mehelp.org, with an intention to help the underprivileged community. Greatly appreciate your support in spreading the word about our website http://www.mehelp.org .

This portal is really a medium to bridge the gap between those who are in real need and those who are compassionate to help the community. The 'need' could be related to anything like medical emergencies, education assistance, everyday life challenges etc., that would require some external support to the impacted families or individuals. Following are the options to help

1.     Report any case(s) that you are aware of in Kerala or otherwise, needing some level of financial support from compassionate souls around the world.

2.     Frequently visit our portal, review the Cases and support as you can..

The more visibility this website gets, more chances of saving lives...

Thank you
MK Menon

Human vocal cords have been grown in a dish in a world first, giving hope to those who have lost their voice to cancer and other illnesses. One in 15 people suffer voice loss at some time and although many recover, some can suffer permanent problems that affect work or relationships. Nick Robinson, the BBC political editor turned Today show presenter, suffered damage to his vocal cords while being treated for lung cancer.

Treatments for vocal cord damage include injections and voice coaching but none is perfect and the effect on everything from jobs to personal relationships can be devastating.

The US work paves the way for vocal cord transplants, in which patients could be given replacement tissue to give them their voice back.

The team from the University of Wisconsin-Madison grew vocal cords in a dish from human cells.

The cords – elastic bands of muscle that vibrate hundreds of times a second to produce sound – felt like the real thing.

They also made realistic-sounding noises, the journal Science Translational Medicine reports.

Much more work is needed before vocal cords suitable for human transplant can be grown in the lab but the researchers are optimistic.

'Our vocal cords are made up for special tissue that needs to be flexible enough to vibrate, yet strong enough to bang together hundreds of times per second.

'It's an exquisite system and a hard thing to replicate.

'We never imagined we would see the impressive level of function we did and that this engineered tissue would have such strong potential as a therapy.'
