ഒക്‌ലഹോമയിലെ ചുഴലിക്കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ്‌
വാഷിങ്ടണ്‍ : അമേരിക്കന്‍ നഗരമായ ഒക്‌ലഹോമയില്‍ വീശിയടിച്ച ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില്‍ 24 പേര്‍ മരിച്ചു. നിരവധിപേര്‍ ആസ്പത്രികളില്‍ ചികിത്സയിലാണ്. നൂറിലധികം പേരെ കുന്നുകൂടിക്കിടക്കുന്ന അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങള്‍ക്കിടയില്‍നിന്ന് രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തി.
മരിച്ചവരില്‍ 12 വയസ്സിന് താഴെയുള്ള കുട്ടികളുമുണ്ട്. മണിക്കൂറില്‍ 320 കി.മീ. വേഗത്തില്‍ വീശിയ കാറ്റില്‍ രണ്ട് സ്‌കൂളുകളടക്കം നിരവധി കെട്ടിടങ്ങള്‍ നിലംപൊത്തി. വാഹന ഗതാഗതവും വൈദ്യുതി, ടെലിഫോണ്‍ ബന്ധങ്ങളും താറുമാറായി. മരണസംഖ്യ ഉയര്‍ന്നേക്കുമെന്നാണ് സൂചന.
നേരത്ത തൊണ്ണൂറിലധികം പേര്‍ മരിച്ചതായി വാര്‍ത്തകളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍, ഇത് ശരിയല്ലെന്ന് അധികൃതര്‍ അറിയിച്ചു.
കഴിഞ്ഞ രണ്ടുദിവസമായി ഒക്‌ലഹോമയില്‍ 32 കി.മീ. പ്രദേശത്ത് ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റ് സാന്നിധ്യമറിയിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഒടുവില്‍ ജനങ്ങള്‍ തിങ്ങിപ്പാര്‍ക്കുന്ന പ്രദേശത്താണ് കാറ്റ് നാശം വിതച്ചത്. നഗരത്തിന്റെ തെക്കുള്ള പ്രദേശമായ മൂറിലാണ് നഷ്ടമേറെയും. ഇവിടെ രണ്ട് സ്‌കൂളുകള്‍ തകര്‍ന്നാണ് കുട്ടികള്‍ മരിച്ചത്. കെട്ടിടാവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളില്‍നിന്ന് നിരവധി കുട്ടികളെ രക്ഷപ്പെടുത്തി. രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തനം തുടരുകയാണ്. കാറ്റില്‍ തകര്‍ന്ന മൂറിലെ ആസ്പത്രിയില്‍നിന്ന് രോഗികളെ ഒഴിപ്പിച്ചു.
സംഭവത്തെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ബരാക് ഒബാമ ഒക്‌ലഹോമയില്‍ അടിയന്തരാവസ്ഥ പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. ഇവിടെ കൂടുതല്‍ രക്ഷാപ്രവര്‍ത്തകരെ നിയോഗിച്ചു. 1999ല്‍ ഇതേ സ്ഥലത്തുണ്ടായ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില്‍ 44 പേര്‍ മരിച്ചിരുന്നു.
