I can answer about the 'OK'....
OK originally refered to '0 (as in zero) killed'.
This is an expression coined during the American Civil War, when the daily reports to the war HQ was -50 K, ie 50 killed, 70 K, ie 70 Killed, etc.
When there were no casualties on a particular day, the report was 'O K' , which was considered as a good omen, and so, over a period of time, the expression has stuck.
