This was passed on to me by someone which I would like to share on this site.
To begin with I am neither an astrologer, nor a mathematician. I am neither a seer nor a sage. A thought passed my way and this is just based on that thought.
According to the Mayan Long Count calendar there are 5125.3619 years in a period. The current Period began in 3114 BC and is suppose to end on Dec. 21, 2012. The current period is described as Earth 4, Ruled by 5th sun. If we follow the same formula there should be 3 earths or time period before this, all for 5125.3619 years. So far we are in the 4th time period. According to Indian Mythology there are 4 yugs. Starting with Satya yug, then Treta Yug, then Dvapara Yug and then Kali Yug. The current Yug is the Kali Yug, which is the 4th Yug. Per Indian Myth after the 4th Yug, things go back to the era of Satya Yug. Each yug is ¼ less than the previous Yug. So if the current yug is about 5125 years, then about 6833 years is for Dvapara yug, and about 9112 years for Treta yug, and about 12149 for Satya Yug. Also it states that Lord Rama was born in Treta Yug, while Lord Krishna in Dvapara Yug. While the calculations for Lord Krishna's birth are 3228 BC, the birth of Lord Rama is unknown. Some mention the date as 5000 BC and some think that date is 7000 BC, while some historians believe the date is closer to 9000 BC. But all agree that was toward the end of Treta Yug. Lord Krishna and Lord Rama were considered as Avatars of Lord Vishnu, the supreme god. Lord Rama was considered as the seventh Avatar, while Lord Krishna as the eight Avatar. Lord Buddha is considered as the 9th Avatar born in Kali Yug, but some argue that he is not the 9th Avatar. Kalki is suppose to be the 10th avatar to come on earth on a white horse to defeat Kaali, just like one of the four horsemen coming on the Judgment Day per Bible. Nobody knows the timeline of the other Avatars, maybe it occurred in the Satya Yug or early Treta Yug. If I use the same methodology used for Mayan calendar to Indian Yugs this is how it would look. Also Satya yug is more close to Paradise per Bible whereas Treta (which means 3) yug you can say that only 3/4th humanity was left in human beings. In Dvapara (which means 2) you can say that only one half of humanity was left in human beings. And in Kali yug only 1/4th humanity is left in human beings.
Treta Yug
Around 9000 BC there was a temporary Global Freezing according to Science. This could have caused the Aryans to move from European region to move towards South Asian region for warmer climate. Lord Rama was referred to as son of Aryans. If we go according to Mayan Calendar then Lord Rama was born around 8500 BC, but if the Mayan calendar is true for this yug and Indian legend is true that each yug is 1/4th less than the previous yug then Lord Rama was born around 10200 BC. The reason this dates sound historically correct is because per legend Lord Rama was banished for 14 years where he had to go to Jungles and ultimately defeat Ravan. During his time in Jungle he met Hanuman, Sugreev, and Bali. Per Indian legend they were all monkeys. I see the difference in that, they were not Monkeys but early homo sapiens race that was pervasive during early 10000 to 9000 BC. For Rama, who according to some legends is from the lineage of Adam, anything that looked like a monkey termed them as vanara or Monkey. According to Ramayana, Hanumans clan can talk and had enough knowledge to form kingdom. There is a chapter on how Bali had overtaken is brother's throne. During the Dvapara Yug, there is no mention of such humanoids. So I believe from Treta Yug to Dvapara Yug the entire human evolution process was complete. After Lord Rama defeated Ravan, he went back to Ayodhya. He had to abandon his wife and his two sons were born. It is known that during Treta Yug science was very advanced there were Agni Vhaan and Nag Vhaan and other such weapons which would be equivalent to missiles of today. Also there is a mention of Udan Khatola, flying object, which traveled at a great speed. After defeating Ravan, Ram made Ravan's brother as an heir to the throne. Most probably the time between the defeat of Ravan and the turn of TretaYug to Dvapara Yug might have been sometimes between 20 to 30 years or even more. There is no mention of when Yug changed to Dvapara Yug in Ramayana or what actually happened to all of the weapons or flying objects.
Dvapara Yug
Per Hindu mythology Lord Krishna was born in the Dvapara Yug. His birth date is 3228 BC. He was a cow herder. Per Scientific evidence, Animal domestication occurred around 8000 BC. Another reason for Lord Rama to be born before this time because there is no mention of Animal herding in Ramayana as far as I can recall. While Lord Rama was born towards the end of Treta Yug, Lord Krishna was born in the end of Dvapara Yug. He slains his uncle Kansa during his childhood, which could be around 3242 BC, about 70 years before the Mayan calendar's beginning date of 3114 BC. After defeating Kansa, the reigns of the throne was given to Kansa's father. The story of change to Kali Yug is mentioned as "At the end of the Dwapar Yuga, when Lord Shri Krishna renounced the world and went to Goloka, at that time Kali Yuga, the source of all chaos took birth in the minds of the ignorant. When king Yudhishtir realized the advent of the Kali Yuga that is chaos, greed, violence, debauchery and lies, he expressed a desire to go to the forest and do penance. Accordingly, he abdicated the throne and coroneted his grandson Parikshit as the king. When Kali Yuga met king Parikshit, he was shivering with fear and said humbly:" O king! Brahma created 4 eras that are Satya, Treta, Dwapar and Kali Yuga. Satya Yuga enjoyed his reign for 17,28,000 years and went away. Treta Yuga enjoyed his reign for 12,96,000 years and Dwapar Yuga enjoyed his reign for 8,64,000 years and passed away. Now the time for me has come to reign which is 4,32,000 years and you tell me to get out from your empire. You rule over the entire world. Where should I go after all? O king! What is once proposed by the Gods cannot be erased or eliminated." Kali Yuga told Parikshit that:" You point your fingers on my flaws and demerits but do not see my merits and positive aspects. I am embellished with sublime merits. That is the reason I request you. During the Satya Yuga if any one inadvertently committed a wrong deed the entire kingdom had to bear the punishment. During Treta, if any one committed a wrong deed, the people of that town had to bear the punishment. During Dwapar Yuga, if anyone happened to commit a wrong deed, the entire family had to bear the punishment, but in Kali Yuga, he shall only bear the punishment who has committed the wrong deed. I am not concerned about anyone else." Unlike the other eras where one had to inevitably bear the punishment for wrong and bad thoughts, in my era, this shall cease to happen but one shall be bestowed with good fruits who thinks good."Even after listening to this, King Parikshit did not relent, Kali Yuga said that he was endowed with yet another sublime merits. He said:" One could fulfill all ones wishes and desires in the Satya Yuga only after practicing penance for 10,000 years. Similarly in the Treta Yuga and the Dwapar Yuga, one had to collect a lot of money and perform Yagyas and had to engage in charity, penance, vows and worship for 100 years respectively to fulfill ones desires. Unlike the others, in this era, if one even prays to God for some time with total faith and devotions and sings the praises of the Lord, he shall fulfill all his desires within no time. He shall be liberated from all his sins and shall consequently attain salvation." Listening to this King Parikshit was pleased. King Parikshit finally allowed Kali Yuga to stay and allowed him four places where he could stay, liquor and wine, where a prostitute stays, where there is animal slaughter and where gambling would be allowed. Kali Yuga humbly pleaded that his family was very big that is it comprises of members like lust, anger, greed, ego, jealousy, lies etc. How shall all of them fit in these allotted places? On this king Parikshit said that they should all then dwell in gold. In this way, Kali Yuga resides in the 5 places allotted by king Parikshit." One story states Kali took over mind of people through the gold ornament they were wearing on their head and made the people of town kill each other. In the town of Dwarka, Only Krishna, his brother Balaram and some women were not killed. All the sons and grandsons of Krishna killed themselves. All the women folks were sent to live with the Pandavas who were helped by Krishna during Mahabharata. With grief Balarama went in to the jungles and went in to Yogic stage. He was followed by Krishna later on. Balarama passed away first and then Krishna passed away short time after that. Per Indian Mythology, Kali Yug started when Krishna left earth. But according to the stories Kali Yug started when Lord Krishna left for Goloka. So the timing of 3114 BC looks like a good estimate when Kali Yug started.
Kali Yug
If it is right Kali Yug started sometimes around 3114BC. Around the same time as the beginning of the Mayan calendar and close to the death of Lord Krishna. According to Brahma Kumaris, a single cycle lasts 5000 years, very close to Mayan calendar. But according to Brahma Kumaris a 5000 period is divided into 4 periods of 1250 each and believes 4 yugs are of 1250 each and it keeps repeating itself. According to some great scholars we are almost at the beginning of the Satya Yug. We are going through the same phase as what great sages have said what the Kali Yug is going to be like. People are turning away from god and greed and corruption is taking over.
Conclusion
Comparing Kali Yug to other Yugs there are some comparisons we can make. Looks like God came as an Avatar during the transition of the ERA or Yug. In Treta it was Lord Rama and in Dvapara it was Lord Krishna. During the transition time there was no war. War took place before the transition. Lord Rama defeated Ravana and gave the reigns of his throne to Ravan's brother at least about 20 to 30 years before the Yug transitioned. Lord Krishna defeated Kansa and gave the reigns to the throne to Kansa's father at least 65 to 70 years before the Yug turned. Also he gave the reign to Pandava's what was rightfully theirs from the Kauravas at least about 20 to 30 years before the Yug turned. If December 2012 is correct date, then we have Hitler and Mussolini who was defeated and the right to their throne or presidency given to their own countrymen about 60 to 70 years before the Yug/Era turned. Same thing can be said about Saddam Hussein about 20 years before the Yug/Era turned. So the question is if the history repeats itself who is the Avatar in today's world. Was it Winston Churchill or was it Franklin Roosevelt or Harry S Truman or is it even George W Bush. Also today there is no war. We had WWI and WWII, war in Afghanistan and Iraq are at a very low level. So could the Mayan Calendar suggesting we are actually crossing over to a new ERA, maybe Satya Yug all over again and if so what differences it will bring. Will it be a judgment day or people will live their normally as they been doing but all the greed and corruptions will go away from people's mind. Only time will tell.
Another theory is that the beginning of Mayan calendar is the same time as the great flood and Noah's Ark. But that could not be true because no scientific evidence has ever been found of the Ark. With so many sightings and no physical evidence of the Ark, people have abandoned the idea of the Ark and takes it for Metaphoric understanding rather than literally. But to look at this, I will go back to Indian Mythology. According to Vishnu Purana, Vishnu's first Avatar was as a fish and he appeared to a person named Manu. The rest of the story follows the same way as Noah's Ark, where the fish tells Manu to build a ship and gather each kind of species due to earth going to be flooded. If Lord Vishnu's 7th Avatar was in Treta Yug. What that means is that Noah's story did not take place in 3114 BC, but maybe around 20500 years ago ��" 5125.36 X 4 Yugs or if we add the yugs per Indian Mythology then it is 33219 years ago. So the whole cycle takes roughly 20,500 years or 33219 years and the story of Noah actually took place during the end of one of the previous Kali Yug. This could also be seen because during the time of Noah the people were very wicked which caused the god to create flood. And according to Satya Yug, people were in general nice and generous to everyone so there can be no way we would have so many wicked people. That is the only reason why we did not find any scientific evidence of the Ark. Scientists and archaeologists are looking at the wrong place and time for the evidence. This can also tell that we are going through the cycles of Satya Yug, Treta Yug, Dvapara Yug and Kali Yug. And after Kali Yug, Satya Yug begins again. According to science the earth is 4.54 billion years old and life appeared on its surface within 1 billion years. So if that is true then we could have gone through I don't know how many cycles. So many cycles that no one can tell where and when the whole thing started. Also this also means that we only know of things that happened in this cycle only. What happened in the previous cycles no one knows that? How many times Lord Vishnu came on earth in an Avatar can be many times we only know the last 9.
As far as Mayan Legend is concerned no one knows anything about Mayan legend. Mayan's manuscript so deciphered that no one is able to make any sense out of it so far. But one thing is clear that their supreme god is Q'uq'umatz/Kukulkan (also spelled Ququmatz, Qucumatz, Gucumatz, Kucumatz, K'uk'ulkan, K'uk'ul-chon, and other ways): The feathered serpent god, closely related to Quetzalcoatl of the Aztecs. He was most important to the Quiche Maya people, who considered him the creator of humankind. Among other Mayan cultures, he was more often seen as a messenger between gods and men, and was sometimes known as the Vision Serpent. Q'uq'umatz is the deity's name in the K'iche Mayan language, while K'uk'ulkan is his name in the Yucatec Mayan language. While Lord Vishnu is always envisioned as someone resting on the body of the serpent, while the serpent has made an umbrella out of himself to shade Lord Vishnu. Now let me paraphrase the above description again: "who considered him the creator (Lord Vishnu) of humankind. Among other Mayan cultures, he was more often seen as a messenger (Lord Vishnu's Avatars) between gods and men.
