Quotable quote…

"A word to the wise ain't necessary – it's the stupid ones that need the advice" – Bill Cosby.

**

Weird world…

Mumbai: Security Agency's owner and guard beaten up and house burgled.

(Me: Ironical, na?)

**

Police raid Austrian's home, find 56 skulls..

Police in Austria's Burgenland province say they have charged a man with "disturbing the peace of the dead" after finding 56 skulls and other human skeletal remains in his home

News of the day…

Sena defends cops..

(A bold stand and a big shabhaash to the party. One has to see things in proper perspective taking into the totality of the situation prevalent then. The gangsters were running amok and held the city to ransom. Why? They weren't deterred by the laws of the land, and one doesn't remember anyone from the judiciary saying anything, let alone doing something, to speed up the justice delivery. And the media was, as usually, was blaming the politicians and the police force, but not the lackadaisical justice-dispensing system. And the public desperately wanted an end to lawlessness. What was the only option to strike terror in the hearts of the mafios? The media then maintained a pregnant silence – because they knew there was no other alternative. Now the same media has no compunction taking a 180-degree U-turn on encounters – fake or otherwise…. The need of the hour is vastly simplified laws taking into account the country's genius and the enormous stress on its financial resources.. One cannot but echoes the views of Swaminathan Iyer..)

From the world of science…

What's the best thing that I can do to prevent breast cancer?

Maintaining a 40 ng/ml serum level of vitamin D is a first line of defense against breast cancer. Some experts believe that 90% of breast cancers are related to Vitamin D levels. Breast cancer has been described as 'Vitamin D deficiency syndrome."

Man-made heart gets a bovine boost..

Cow tissue in artificial organ to help stop clotting: study.

Scientists have long searched for a durable artificial heart that can work as efficiently as the one supplied by nature. Now Carmat, a company based in Paris, has designed an artificial heart fashioned in part from cow tissue. The device, soon to be tested in patients with heart failure, is regulated by sensors, software and microelectronics.

(Me: Heard.. Indian NGOs are girdling up their loins to file writ petitions and PILs in our highest law courts that Indian patients – even those who would die otherwise – shouldn't be used as guinea pigs…)
**
Want to live longer? Try eating walnuts.

Scientists discovered that these edible seeds cut the risk of dying from cancer by 40% and from heart disease by at least 55%. In general, nut eaters in the research had a 39% lesser risk of death and walnut eaters had a45% reduced threat.

(Me: So? Go nuts!)

**

Sunflower seeds are high in vitamin E content, which protects the body from asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.

**

Aloe vera has strong anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties. It can be used for healing cuts, wounds and graze.

Woman, holding several credit credits and bills payable, to husband: "We can't start planning for our golden years until we finish paying off our plastic years."

**

Heated gold is called ornament. Beaten copper is called wire. Compressed carbon is called diamond.

But heated, beaten and compressed person is called husband!

A thought for our times…

"Too often… we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought" – John F. Kennedy.

(Me: handing out opinion on any and every issue is easy - without application of mind and without a proper perspective based on the totality of a situation)
