The law is the public's conscience - Thomas Horbes.
(Me: so, the presiding officers of courts are expected to use them JUDICIOUSLY and with a commonsensical approach, and not throw the law books at victims and law-enforcement machinery..)
At his best, man is the noblest of all animals; separated from law and justice he is the worst Aristotle

This India
Class 11 textbook blames it on the weather
Mumbai: Why is India terribly overpopulated? First, the unemployed have nothing to do other than have sex. Second, girls mature early in our warm weather so that they are married off young and reproduce soon.
(Me: The first theory is the joke of the country for decades. And the second conjecture attributing the population explosion to weather, is it a fact or fiction? - I welcome comments from my learned, knowledgeable friends..)

Think it over
The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls Pablo Picasso

Cartoon quip
I've no clue Sensex' may be an obscene site. They talk of figures, curves, players, foreign partners, etc.
(Me: To the uninitiated, Sensex stands for Mumbai's stock-market index that is a barometer of a whole lot of listed shares/stocks/scrips of the particular day)

Tongue very much in cheek
Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage H.L. Mencken.
(Me: Does look so, given the happenings in the country.. hahaha. Arre, mere bhaiyon aur behnon, this is quote from today's TOI)

Tweet of the day: @mangeshkarlata. Namaskar. Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character; give him power Abraham Lincoln.
(The Mangeshkar sisters are adored as Hindi film melody queens by the millions in India. But at times they do throw their weight about or misuse their popular clout, e.g. the way they have been tooth n nail opposing the construction of the much-needed flyover, to ease the terrible vehicular congestion, beside their residence obviously because it might intrude into their privacy)

Paris women finally allowed to wear trousers
Woman in Paris can finally wear trousers without fear of criminal prosecution after the government said a more than 200-year-old ban no longer had any legal effect. Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, France's minister of women's right, said that the ban, imposed on November 17, 1800, was in compatible with modern French values. The order required women to seek permission from police if they wanted to address like men.
(Me: Such common sense to realize their mistakes doesn't exist with every community)

House of booze: building made of 5,00,000 bottles.
What do you do with all the empty beer bottles in Las Vegas? A designer specializing in environmental architecture has erected the world's largest building made entirely of recycled beer bottles. Building entrepreneur Scott McCombs created the 30,000-sq-ft Morrow Royal Pavilion of more than 500,000 bottles weighing 290,000 lbs. that were crushed and formed into a composite material called GreenStone.

Three recent judgments
1) Change mindset, SC tells judges: Slams condoning of wife-beating leading to her suicide.. Abetment Case involved the accused Vajresh Anvekar torturing and beating his wife that led her to commit suicide. The trial court acquitted him, then the high court reversed the judgment and then the apex court upheld the reversal.
2) The Kerala Suryanelli case: 35 men held a 16-year-old girl captive for 40 days and gangraped her, in the mid-1990s. The sessions court sentenced them all for varying terms of imprisonment. The high court then found fault with the law-enforcement agency and prosecution for the way the investigations were carried out and released all the accused. Now the SC has ordered a retrial of the case.
3) A gruesome murder case in Byculla, Mumbai. The investigating team was rewarded for their splendid job of cracking the case within a week. Yet, the High Court charged the cops/prosecution for shoddy investigation/presentation of the case in the court,

And the parting shot
The wiser a man is, the less talkative will he be
