Hoarder trapped under clutter for 30 hours!

Noel Rainer, 85, who has every inch of his home completely covered in his belongings got stuck under a mountain of his debris, which featured mounds of bags, boxes and paper, when he fell over a stack of newspapers. But Noel was unable to reach his phone to call anyone and tell them he was trapped so he was left under the clutter for 30 hours until police and firefighters came to rescue him after they were alerted by his relatives who had become concerned about his whereabouts.

Sleeping Russian judge wakes up, sentences man to 5 yrs.

Moscow: A Russian judge who appeared to fall asleep during a trial has resigned. Video footage seems to show Yevgeny Makhno nodding off during a defence lawyer's speech. He then went on to sentence the defendant to five years hard labour.

Man arrested for using APP to impersonate cop.

Tony Newsom used a smart-phone app to impersonate a Memphis, Tennessee police officer, but sadly, pulled over a car driven by a real police officer who was off-duty and in uniform.

Newsom was driving a black SUV on Elvis Presley Boulevard and flashed red and blue strobe lights in the centre of windshield using the app's police lights function. The real officer approached Newsom's car to tell him that he was an officer and saw the imposter hiding his phone. Newsome posted a $250 bond after he was charged with criminal impersonation and violation of the light law.

Tom was riding his motorbike with Peter on the pillion. They came to a red light, and Tom shot right through it. Peter asked him, "Why did you do that?" Tom replied that that's how his brother drives.

At another red light too, Tom rode straight on. And when asked, said that's how his brother drives.

Then they came to a green light. Tom slammed the brakes. Peter's heart nearly stopped as he yelled, "Now why the hell did you do that?"

Tom replied: "You never know, my brother could be coming the other way."

"Focus on health and education, not on banning things" – Amartya Sen to protesters, as quoted in TOI 4/2/13

(But wags say, health and education needs mindboggling sums of money and takes decades to deliver, if at all the money so spent does reach the designated causes, whereas protests get u votes fast)

News of the day

Prez. ordinance on sexual crimes

And entire media screams that it was hustled through without debate.

(Me: It's like, you are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't. Given Indians' penchant for endless debates and notoriety for not being doers, if the matter was allowed to be discussed/debated, the country would never ever have legislated these much-needed tough measures. As some women's groups had also appealed to the Prez. not to give his assent; looks women themselves are their own enemies. See, the ordinance is the final word as it always can be amended and/or added on to to accommodate other measures)

"Capital punishment is as fundamentally wrong as a cure for crime as charity is wrong as a cure for poverty" – Henry Ford.

(Me: An ideal and at best a Utopian thinking; it isn't based on facts or sound judgement, for how do you know for you sure that the fear of noose/electric chair/gas chamber has not stopped tens of thousands of people from committing serious crimes? Poverty cannot be removed from the face of earth so as long population grows in geometrical proportion, so should we stop charity? Some celebrities and leaders do talk through their hat, indeed)
