[www.keralites.net] khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 12/2/13

Michael bhagta hue to boss: "Baas, Harshad Mehta ko pakad liya."
Loin: "Uska stool test lo"
Michael: "kyon baas"?
Loin: "hum bhi toh dekhe yeh 'bullshit' kya hote hain"

(Me: These loin or rather Ajit jokes as they were known – following the super success of the Hindi film, "Kallicharan" in the 1970s, where the late film villain, Ajit, dons the role of Lion, pronounced Loin, with two sidekicks, Michael and Sona (the villain's moll – hence the famous dialogue, "Mona, Sona lao -) were a rage similar to the Santa-Banta ones now. Ajit's cult dialogue, "Shara shahar mujhe Loil se jante hain has been immortalized in the annals of Hindi filmdom)

Now the second, Harshad Mehta, who? He was better known as the Big Bull of Mumbai Stock Exchange, where the led bull phase and took the Sensex, the city stock market index, to dizzying heights by propping up dud shares through ring trading. The 20,000-rupee crore stockmarket scam was considered the biggest fraud in India until the mid-1990s. In stock market parlance, bulls are sellers while bears are buyers of scrips).

Tweet of the day: The pope apparently is the 1st Pontiff to resign in 600 yrs citing old age. Must check with L.K. Advani… He must have been around at the previous resignation.

Weird world…

Woman French kisses jailed son to give him drugs.

New York: A mother's love knows no bounds, but Kimberly Margeson's love for her son may have shown no boundaries.

New York State police say 54-year-old Margeson passed two Oxycodone pills to her 30-year-old son, William Partrige, by French-kissing him during a jailhouse visit.

Health tip…

For healthy nails, rub some castor oil into your cuticles. It contains vitamin E which is great for your cuticles.

How common are back problems?

90% of Americans have back problems at some point in their life. Back pain is the fifth most common reason for doctor visits.

Valentine's day eve news…
Who is more romantic, men or women?

The proof is here: Men, not women, are more romantic..

London: Men are more likely to make romantic gestures on Valentine's Day than women who are 50% likely to snub the day, according to new UK research. Women are significantly more likely to ignore the even altogether than men. Women are also more likely to mark the day with nothing more than a card, shunning any extravagant show of affection, the study found.

News headline..

"Pak Taliban ban Viagra…"

**

Woman to husband: "When you don't talk to me, I get lonely. When you do talk to me, I get bored. I guess grunting is OK."

Think it over…

"True patriotism hates injustice in its own land more than anywhere else" – Clarence Darrow

(Me: True: this is how it should be. But fact is to the contrary: for all the troubles and travels in their countries, their people blame dark FOREIGN hands…)

"Rather than worry about an increasing population, cities like Mumbai must concern themselves with transport and environmental matters," Darryl D'Monte in HT

(Me: The author is the one of the most vociferous advocates and prime-movers of the green brigade in the country, and he must have pocketed mega bucks for penning this piece, but as usual, talking through his hat without appreciating the ground realities in the country, especially in metro cities. The other section of green guys also incessantly talk of the man-animal conflict and its detrimental effect on animals and they attribute the increasing numbers of leopard attacks on human beings to people encroaching on animal habitat.

The greenwallas with their blinkers-on may not agree but fact is... THE problem IS unchecked increasing population, mostly influx of people the hinterland esp. the not-so developed northern states.

For example, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park covering some 29-25 sq. kilometers is the biggest and considered the green lung of Mumbai, but large numbers of slum pockets have encroached on it, for free of course. The green guys want the government to evacuate them, without explaining how. On the hand, the self-serving media makes a hue and cry when the government or some politicians want to restrict the influx saying such a move is against the fundamental rights of the people to live anywhere in the country and earn their livelihood. Due to the skyrocketing price of pucca houses and their unaffordability, where will these lakhs of migrants settle other than on government land, be it national parks that are and should be the natural habitats of animals or just wherever free land is available for squatting.

In a man vs. animals tug-of-war, when you apply the law of the survival of the fittest – and you have got to apply it because a human life is more precious – the animals are at a disadvantage. And it they will continue to be at a disadvantage in the country at large and particularly in cities as long as there is no forcible control over population growth, no restrictions on influx to cities or more prosperous states and the laggard states don't accelerate their development growth. All the three will remain pipedreams for ever due to political compulsion or put it bluntly the need to appease their votebanks.
