What is an Ulcer:
An ulcer is a sore, which means it's an open, painful wound. Peptic ulcers are ulcers that form in the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine, called the duodenum.
Duodenum ulcers are four times as many than ulcers in the stomach itself. Approximately 4% of stomach ulcers are formed as malignant tumor and thus, the thorough examination with the multiple biopsies are required to exclude cancer.
An ulcer that appears on the skin is often visible as an inflamed tissue with an area of reddened skin.
Symptoms of an ulcer:
In some cases an ulcer shows no symptoms to get examined which is too risky for human health. However, most common symptoms of an ulcer are as follow:- A heartburn in the stomach just after the meal or, in contrast, at night when the stomach is empty
- Weakness (which is a symptom of a bleeding ulcer)
- Bloating
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loss of appetite and weight
- Hematemesis
- Melena
- Another symptom of a bleeding ulcer is blood in stool or vomit.
Peptic ulcers were formerly thought to be caused by stress, coffee consumption, or spicy foods. Now it is clear that about 60% of peptic ulcers are caused by a bacterial infection that can usually be cured. Another 20% are caused by nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as aspirin and ibuprofen (Advil, Nuprin, etc.), and another 20% have miscellaneous causes such as cigarettes or no clear cause.
Ulcer Remedies:
- Lime is valuable in peptic ulcers. The citric acid in this fruit, together with the mineral salts present in the juice, help in digestion.
- Eating raw tomatoes helps rid mouth ulcers. Can also gargle with tomato juice 3-4 times a day.
- Milk prepared from blanched almonds in a blender is very useful as a treatment for peptic ulcers. It binds the excess of acid in the stomach and supplies high quality protein.
- Avoid coffee, alcohol, citrus juices, sugar, hot and spicy foods, these substances irritate the stomach and encourage the production of gastric acid.
- Take 5000 IU of vitamin A four times a day, for six weeks, to heal the mucus membrane.
- Drink freshly made cabbage juice daily.
- Do not smoke. Smoking can delay or prevent healing.
- Eat frequent small meals of foods that are easy to digest.
- Gastro Health can be used to inhibiting the activity of Helicobacter pylori bacteria.
- A tea made from fenugreek seeds is yet another useful remedy for peptic ulcers.
