[www.keralites.net] khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 22/7/13

Eating eggs not linked to high cholesterol…

Washington: Eating more than 2 eggs doesn't lead to higher serum cholesterol in teens, regardless of how little physical activity they do, a new study.

'Smart' street lamps..

Washington: Am Indian-origin designer has developed unique 'smart' street-lamps which light up only in presence of people, an invention that could slash energy costs by 80%. The system dubbed Tvilight was invented by designer Chintan Shaw while he was studying at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Shah said that Europe pays over $13 billion a year powering street lights.

Climate change will probably wipe out the world's most endangered feline, the Iberian lynx, in 50 years..

Can bread lower blood pressure?

Bread can help lower blood pressure if you eat the right kind. According to Johns Hopkins University, the insoluble fiber in whole-grain bread can help lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Roughly 85 grams, the equivalent of 3 slices of bread, is an adequate amount.

(Me: Whole wheat and brown bread recommended.)

HPV behind third of throat cancer cases..

Human papillomavirus may be behind a third of all throat cancers and the HPV vaccine may provide patients with protection from the disease, a new study has found. HPV is the major cause of cervical cancer, and is known to spread through genital or oral contact.

(Me: Recently a well-known Hollywood admitted to having oral cancel precisely due to his proclivities..)

Bottle gourd (dudhi) helps prevent constipation, flatulence and piles.

**

Onions contain chromium which assists in regulating blood sugar..

A little boy knocks at the door and tells the owner that something of his had found its way into her garage, and he wanted it back.

The homeowner opened the garage and noticed two additions; a baseball and broken window sporting a baseball-sized hole. "How do you suppose this ball got in here?" she asked.

Taking one look at the ball and one look at the window, the little boy exclaimed, "Wow lady! I must have thrown it right through that hole!"

Fact of the matter…

At Japanese weddings, the presence of 1001 white paper origami cranes is considered good luck.

Because ducks mate for life, a Korean groom will ask a happily married friend to make him two small wooden ducks for his new household.

(Me: I strongly advise that the Indian grooms follow the Korean custom and ask their friends to do likewise – gift them wooden ducks, of course!)

Man to wife as they lay in the bedroom couch: "When the internet was new, I used to wake up at night to check my e-mail. Now I have it forwarded to my dreams."

Law taking its own course..

Whenever a huge scam is unearthed…

Our hon'ble ministers invariably say, "law will take its own course", "the guilty will be punished, however might s/he be"

And the accused say, 'we have full faith in the judicial system'

And an example..

The heartthrob Sallu was involved in a hit n run case in 2002; in a drunken state he ran his Landrover over half-a-dozen people sleeping in the pavement, killing one.

It took 11 years just to decide whether he should be tried for drunken, reckless driving attracting a simple penalty and/or punishment or for homicide with a maximum of 10 years' RI. God alone knows how many years it would take before the final verdict via a multi-layer system is passed…

Already there is a cacophony of voices from interested filmfolks led by Bhatt that leniency should be shown to the top gun in our film industry - reputedly commanding a fee of 25 crores of rupees (over 4 million US dollars) per film.

During the intervening period, one of the victim was granted 10 lakhs as compensation, and a couple of days ago he was wailing for the compensation, so he could buy an accommodation. Ten years ago, with that money, he could have got a 1 bhk flat in the city. Now a dinghy shack or hovel in slums costs 30 or 40 lakhs of rupees.

**

Mindchow

Do not dwell in the past,do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.

(Me: Yep, yesterday is gone forever, and tomorrow may never come; today is the day to do things..)

**

Think it over…

"The spirit of democracy is not a mechanical thing to be adjusted by abolition of forms. It requires change of heart" – M.K. Gandhi.

(Me: In the land of Gandhi, democracy is equated with holding elections ritualistically..)
