Pranayam to be introduced in Anderson Cancer Center

Houston, TX: Swami Ramdev, a world renowned yoga master, met with Dr. John Mendelsohn, president of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) here recently.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was discussed to be formulated between MDACC and the University of Patanjali in Haridwar, India, and  Patanjali Yogpeeth, USA.

Swami Ramdev pointed out to Dr. John Mendelsohn that in order to dramatically reduce the incidence of cancer, pranayam and meditation should be added to chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery in treating cancer. It was suggested that in addition to chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, treatment of cancer should also  include behavioral studies (interventions) like pranayam, meditation, and herbal/ayurveda. The proposed project study includes analysis of the three categories: (1) combination of pranayam and meditation, (2) pranayam and herbal/ayurveda, and (3) herbal/ayurveda.

Dr. Mendelsohn was positive on this proposition. He instructed Dr. Lorenzo Cohen to work on the MoU. Dr. Mendelsohn commented that he wanted the introduction of behavioral treatment (yoga, pranayam, and meditation) to be his legacy in treating cancer.

Also present in the meeting were: Dr. Sen Pathak, Dr. Varsha Gandhi, Dr. Lorenzo Cohen Dr. Kapil Mehta,   Sushila and Durga D. Agrawal, Shekhar Agrawal, Braham Aggarwal, Sunita and Shravan Poddar.

Swami Ramdev has dedicated his life to studying ancient Indian texts, dated as early as 3000 B.C.E., and in doing so has rediscovered a fund of knowledge that until recently has largely been ignored.
