Dear Unnikrishnan,
I appreciate your feeling as an Indian. I feel we should look at the matter considering all the other related matter. The hike in the price of fuel is not an independent incident.
I hope you are a regular participant in this forum. There was a serious discussion and sympathy from many of the participants on the salary of a house driver in Gulf countries. Normally he get UAE Dh./ Saudi Riyal 1,200.00 equivalent to around Rs.14,000.00 per month for working as and when required. After his essential expenses like food, cloths, telephone charges, toiletries etc. hr can send an amount of max. Rs.8,000.00 pm to his house. Presently drivers working in India get an average salary of Rs.15,000.00 pm for 8 hr per day/ 6 days per week. Many of the participants were having the view ' why Indian drivers go for Gulf job of UAE Dh./ Saudi Riyal 1,200.00 , rather than working in India for a salary of Rs.15,000.00 pm'UAE Dh./ Saudi Riyal
We should go back to 1998-2000 period. The exchange rate of UAE Dh./ Saudi Riyal was almost same. and a driver in Gulf used to get UAE Dh./ Saudi Riyal Rs 1,200.00 amounting around Rs.16,000.00 pm. A driver in India used to get Rs.6,000.00 pm. Comparing Indian salary, Gulf salary was much higher. So, it was attractive.
Then, how the situation changed? The main culprit is INFLATION.
(From my personal experience: I worked in various Gulf countries for around 15yrs. and came back to India in 2002 and joined my permanent remuneration in Kerala Government service. The indemnity I received at that time and my saving during gulf service had been utilized for purchasing land and constructing a house. In 2002 I spent say xx lakhs for all these and I was empty. The present value of all those I purchased/ constructed is 10 times xx lakhs.
Some of my friends (with a salary almost same I was drawing) who still continue there (almost 25 years) are not in a position to purchase even 25% of the land I purchased by using their entire earnings)
(Being personal matter, request not to comment, if you have difference in opinion on any of my personal dealings above
When the fuel price increase, the transportation charge increases, Market price of commodities increases, Living cost increase salary/ wages increases, income increases (except for agriculturists] purchasing capacity increases &Value of Indian Rupee depresses so the fuel price increases ( as the government do not have any control on it) again and the whole cycle repeats indefinitely.
Only solution is the aggressive public response against the government policies. But how many are ready to come out of their shelter.
In a channel (India vision) discussion (on the proposed harthaal on 04.11.2011) today a participant from Thiruvanamthapuram told ' The fuel price will keep on increasing, but why should we disturb public life by such harthaals?' A considerable part of the public is with that view. They think that somebody else will take up all the troubles and pains and make the life comfortable for us; our part is to enjoy the fruit.
UNLESS AND UNTILL WE CHANGE THESE TYPE OF MANTALITY AND BECOMING PART OF THE SOCIETY, I DON'T HOPE FOR ANYTHING BETTER.
Thanks

Dear, Ministers and politicians and burocrats like him do not have to worry to what ever the fuel price, even if it reaches Rs. 500/- per Ltr. they have nothing to worry, because they run their vehicle on public's money and not to spend a single paise from their pocket. If the rule is changed to bear the cost of expenses incurred by the individual politicians, netas, burocrates, then we will see whether they clap their hands when the oil companies rise the price every alternate days. Why the government is not taking any action to reduce the duty and taxes on fuels to compensate the increased price in the international market. Why the oil companies did not reduce the price when, very recently, the price per barrel of crude oil wend down? politicians, burocrates and such bloody oil companies are two sides of a coin, no difference, head or tail, it will come on poor public's back. And, our back have enough capacity to bear all these burdens - we the donkies. K.P. Unnikrishnan Bhavnagar --- On Thu, 11/3/11, Abdul Saleem P (PNUW) <Asaleem@rufw.ccc.com.sa> wrote:
