A hungry shag chick is pictured with its head halfway down its mum's neck. The sight was captured by photographer Keith Cochrane in the Farne Islands, off the coast of Northumberland. He said: "This picture shows a shag feeding her chick. The chick had reached in to the mother's gullet in search of food. It's quite a ghastly sight but they are both ok. This way of feeding is specific to the shag species - the parent keeps food in its gullet and the chick must reach inside to get it."
