Bollywood Celebs Who Were Victims Of Racism!

1. Priyanka Chopra

Bollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra, was once a victim of racism in US. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Priyanka revealed that she had faced racism during her school days in America that had made her come back to India. She was called 'Brownie' which also became a reason for her to quit school. These things deeply affected PC but she didn't give up and went on to become the lead in American TV show, Quantico.

2. Shah Rukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan was unlawfully detained at New Jersey's Liberty International Airport because of his religion and name. He was detained by authorities who pulled him aside for questioning because of his surname.

3. Shilpa Shetty

 

Bollywood diva, Shilpa Shetty, also had to face racism while being on reality TV show, Celebrity Big Brother in 2007. From being ridiculed for her accent to being called 'The Indian' and even a 'dog,' the incident led to a huge controversy. But she overcome all this and went onto become the winner of Big Brother for that season.

4. Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu experienced a shocking case of racism when allegedly Kareena Kapoor Khan called her 'Kali Billi' because of her dusky complexion. The comment raked up a controversy with Bips refusing to make any comments on the same.

5. Nawazuddin Siddiqui

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, also faced racism during the early days of his Bollywood career. Because of his dark complexion. Nawaz revealed that he was rejected by the producers and directors for many TV shows because they were glossy and Nawazuddin did not fit in those kind of roles due to his dark complexion. The talented actor has now made his own place in Bollywood with a National Award in his kitty.

6. Imran Khan

 

Despite being a US national, the actor has faced racial discrimination at US airports because of his surname. "Whenever I travel to the US, the authorities there detain me for extra security screening because of my Khan surname. They even make me remove my trousers for their security checks," Imran had once revealed in an interview. Although the actor gets irked with such frisking, he has now taken such checks in his stride. "It is irritating, but what can one do. I can't sit and make them understand or tell them 'Listen, Google my name and find out.' I know why it happens; just because of my surname Khan."

7. Neil Nitin Mukesh

When the young actor flew down to the US to shoot for New York with Katrina Kaif, he was detained at the airport as the overtly suspicious officials felt he looked 'too fair' to be an Indian. The actor finally had to ask the officials to 'Google' his name to confirm his real identity as an Indian actor. Despite realising their mistake, the personnel didn't allow Neil to leave immediately and quizzed him about his profession, the kind of films he does and the purpose behind his visit.
