Dear Suresh adidev,
I am in full agreement with you. As mentioned by the very knowledgeable Dr Rajan, ' Make in India ' to export is very difficult in present recessionary circumstances . There is good progress, in case of manufacture of mobile phones in India by Fox conn and others. Foreign exchange we spend on electronics imports is almost as high as the amount we spend on gold imports. ' Make in India , for India' is thus a good and fruitful theme. We should, also
(1) Give special emphasis to sectors, in which we have considerable export volumes, and employment potential like software, automobiles, pharma, textiles, gems and jewellery, seafood , cashew etc .
(2) Avoid getting into a competition with China for exporting steel and other metals .
(3) Get into mission mode for encouraging a culture of ' Quality' in our Industry ( We are not known for producing quality goods), for instance instead of having ' productivity week' every year. Let us celebrate ' productivity with quality week ' every year.
(4) Our organised labour under influence of trade unions are like a mill stone on the neck. Govts are not taking on the trade unions. The productive part of our industries thrive by employing large numbers of contract labour .
(5) I am glad that Govt is actively encouraging ' make in India' in case of defence equipments. We have the dubious distinction of being the biggest arms importer in the world.
(6) Our education systems needs to be reorganised to encourage creativity and experiential learning instead of emphasis on accquiring knowledge and saffronisation
Regards,
Allen Peter
