French cuisine and Indian cuisine are poles apart. French cuisine sounds fancy and is all about layering flavours and savouring every bite. Indian food is however all about the masalas. To get an idea of how interesting French cuisine can get, here are 15 French dishes, you must try at least once in your life...
1. Baked Camembert
This dish is cheesy, gooey and decadent at its best. Made out of cheese, garlic and sprigs of thyme, it tastes like heaven.
2. Reblochon
The taste of French cheese is the authentic taste of cheese, and will take a long time to get off your tongue. Made from cows raw milk in the Alps, Reblochon is a soft washed-rind and smear-ripened with an unforgettable nutty taste.
3. Pissaladière
Similar to pizza, Pissaladière has a somewhat similar dough to that of a Margherita Pizza. Originating in Southern France, this dish has toppings of onions, olives, garlic and anchovies.
4. St. Honoré cake
Named after Saint Honor, this cake is made of puff pastry with a base ring of choux pastry.
5. Nounours à la guimauve
The fancy-sounding name is actually little chocolate bears filled with marshmallows, nuts and caramel.
6. French King Cake
A cake that resembles a king's crown, the French king cake is baked and eaten during Christmas time.
7. Ratatouille
Its not just the name of the Pixar film. Ratatouille is a traditional stew dish where each vegetable is sautéed separately before being layered into a baking dish and baked.
8. Sole Meunière
This dish is the French version of fish fry where sole fish is dunked in flour and fried in a pan.
9. Flammekueche
Also called Tarte flambée, this tasty dish comprises bread dough with the toppings of thinly sliced onions and pork fat.
10. Tartiflette
Reblochon cheese being the primary ingredient, tartiflette is made of potatoes, onions and pork fat.
11. Buf Bourguignon
For beef lovers, this dish is heaven. The cooking time for this dish is around 3 hours, so your patience could be tested if you ever plan on cooking it.
12. Gratin Dauphinois
The Gratin Dauphinois is made with raw potatoes and cream, and is cooked in a buttered dish rubbed with garlic.
13. Calissons
The traditional French candy is often almond-shaped and the texture is somewhat similar to marzipan.
14. Pain Viennois
Pain Viennois are loaves which are made in the shape of a baguette, but taste sweeter.
15. Chestnut Jam
A jam made out of chestnut is comfort food, especially eaten during the winters.
