In today's day and age, it isn't uncommon to see a woman plan her pregnancy at 35 years of age or even beyond. There is a lot that happens in a woman's (and also the man's) life that pushes pregnancy down the priority lists. However, timing your first pregnancy is really important. Delaying it would mean inviting complications for both the mother and baby. Know when is the right time to get pregnant?
Here are few reasons why delaying your first pregnancy is an unhealthy choice

Fertility declines as you age: The number of eggs your ovaries carry, decreases as you age. This means more you delay your pregnancy, the more you are pushing yourself into the infertility zone. It is a known fact that women after 30 have problems conceiving as they ovulate less; there are lesser chances of fertilisation of ova even after having unprotected sex. Moreover, age could also bring with it problems like endometriosis or blockage of fallopian tubes that can make conception challenging. Here are eight common mistakes that every pregnant woman makes and why you should avoid them.
Increased risk of birth defects: With the advent of new-age fertility treatments age might not seem like a barrier in conceiving, but that still doesn't lessen your risks of a baby being born with a birth defect. The chances of carrying a baby with Down's syndrome, a chromosomal abnormality are 1 in 1000 in your 30s, as compared to 1 in 100 in your 40s and beyond 45, the risk goes up to 1 in 30. Even if you conceive at an older age, your Nuchal Translucency or NT scan might be an indicator of your child having risks of birth defects. Most of the time, maternal age stands to be a risk factor for conditions like Down's syndrome or other genetic defects. With age, the chances of miscarriages and stillbirth also increase. Here is why pregnancy after 30 is dangerous for both the mother and baby.
Could lead to complications during labour: Older women have a difficult time getting through labour — either their labour is long or they might have to induce it. In some cases, a c-section can also become the need of the hour. With age, the uterus is also ageing, and it might not work as effectively for an older woman as it might do for someone in her 20s. Here are 35 tips to get pregnant after 35.
Deteriorating maternal health: With age it might be possible that you suffer from certain lifestyle conditions like diabetes and blood pressure. All these conditions can make it difficult to conceive. Also, in case you have a baby who suffers from a genetic defect, there is a 25 percent chance of your second baby suffering from the same. So, if you plan your pregnancy early and still have a baby with birth defects, chances are you can take the right precautionary steps like going for genetic counselling, testing etc,. when you try for the second child.
