Signs Of Highly Sensitive People You Shouldn't Ignore
Do you cry while watching a movie? Get easily irked by sounds of a dragging chair? Lose sleep over a friends break up? Get easily startled? Over-analyse situations? You could be a HSP or a Highly Sensitive Person.
Most highly sensitive people have been called shy or sensitive since they were children. Most of their friends and family know them as being sensitive and for getting easily emotionally involved. Elaine Aron in his book Highly Sensitive People has characterised them as having "increased sensitivity to stimulus" and as being more aware of subtleties and processing information in a deeper and reflective manner. They prefer serene, quiet places more than anything. Highly Sensitive People get easily overwhelmed but respond and act only after deep analysis. Never on an impulse!
1. They are particular about details
HSPs notice every detail to the T. It is difficult to get past them without those minor details. They are probably the ones who are particular about the font size and the alignment of a presentation in your office. They scan their environment keenly and people too. They sure won't miss noticing those new shoes.
2. They are sensitive to criticism
Such people think from every aspect of a situation and feel that they have made the best decision possible. However, in case of gaps pointed out to them it is difficult for them to accept criticism in a healthy manner.
3. They cry often and often too much
Tears roll down far too quickly for highly sensitive people. They can cry at the drop of a hat. It is difficult for them to see someone else cry and this normally results in them ending up crying as well. For instance, it was impossible for them to hold their tears back when Jack dies in Titanic.
4. It takes time for them to make decisions
They can almost never make up their minds to buy those new jeans. They need to survey and then think about every aspect and detail which makes it harder for them to make quick decisions.
5. They are good team members
HSPs can easily sense the needs of their team members and can fill in where required. They are popular within a team as they are empathetic and give valuable suggestions. They work overtime to keep the team spirit going.
6. They are prone to anxiety and depression
Over thinking and over analysing situations can sometimes leave highly sensitive people depressed and anxious.
7. They are good listeners and give sound advice
HSPs are patient listeners and only ask questions to know every aspect of the situation. As they can catch subtleties and are reflective in their approach they can give very balanced advice in most situations.
8. They are normally animal lovers
That abandoned hungry pup on the road will finds a place in the house of an HSP. They love and care for animals and take it upon themselves to give them a better life. Most of them would be active PETA members.
9. Passionate about love
They are passionate lovers. They do all that they can to make their special one feel even more special. But this comes at a cost; having similar expectations which can sometimes be disappointing.
10. They are spiritual and connected with themselves
Highly sensitive people are more tuned with themselves. They are more likely to follow healthy food habits. Yoga and meditation are a way of life for them.
