[www.keralites.net] LEPAKSHI Temple which stand on a pillar that does not rest on the ground - 10 miles from Hindupur rly station and near Puttaprthy [1 Attachment]

The Lepakshi temple is close to the famed pilgrim town of Puttaparthi, where the nearest decent accommodation is available — whether in the ashram or in the Andhra Pradesh government-run Sai Aaramam. From here, it is an hour's drive to the temple. From Hyderabad it is about 480 km and about 130 km from Bangalore. The climate is hot for most of the year and early mornings are the best time to visit.

The small historical village of Lepakshi near  Puttapurthi in  Ananthapur district of Andhra, 10 mile from Hindupur railway station on the Guntakal-Bangalore line.

Lepakshi temple was  built by the brothers Viranna and Virupanna  during the reign of Achyutha Devaraya period who ruled the vijayanagara empire from 1530 A.D to 1542 A.D
