Cunard celebrates 175th anniversary in Liverpool with its Queen Mary 2 ship recreating first transatlantic journey.
Spirits were high in Liverpool this weekend as Cunard celebrated the 175 years since its first Atlantic crossing.
The cruise liner first changed the face of sea travel back in 1840, when its Britannia ship successfully set sail from Liverpool, arriving in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, 14 days later.
In honour of the anniversary, Cunard has recreated its iconic transatlantic crossing, with its Queen Mary 2 setting off on the same voyage on Saturday night, just after 10pm.

The concert took place at the city's Anglican Cathedral, attracting the likes of the Lord Mayor, who made a speech at the event
Just after 10pm, the Queen Mary 2 set sail for Halifax, Nova Scotia and will complete the iconic route in just six days
Hundreds of enthusiasts enjoyed the celebratory concert, while thousands descended upon the Pier Head overlooking the water
Locals were keen to celebrate the company, despite the fact that the last transatlantic voyage departed from Liverpool almost 50 years ago
Earlier this year, in May, the Queen Mary 2 (pictured) was joined by the Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth ships on the River Mersey
