The Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney has confirmed that Jane Austen will appear on a forthcoming Bank of England banknote: the next new

historical figure following Sir Winston Churchill. The Austen note will be issued as a £10 note within a year of the Churchill £5 note, which is targeted for issue

during 2016.
