From the world of science…
Can gold be harvested from plants?
Research suggests it could be possible to harvest gold from plants. The technique uses plants to extract gold particles from soil. Some plants, called hyperaccumulators, have the natural ability to absorb metals such as nickel, cadmium and zinc through their roots and concentrate them in leaves and shoots. But there are no known gold hyperaccumulators because gold doesn't easily dissolve in water.
"Under certain conditions, gold solubility can be forced," said Chris Anderson, an environmental geochemist at Massey University in New Zealand.
(Me: mmmm. With Indians' insatiable hunger for gold, we would take to gold-harvesting like duck to water, if and when it becomes a reality...)

Why no one can eat just one potato chips…
The secrets behind craving for potato chips have been revealed. Tobias Hoch, who conducted the study, said the results shed light on the causes of a condition called "hedonic hyperphagia". "That's the term for 'eating to excess for pleasure, rather than hunger'," Hoch said. People may be attracted to these foods because of the high ratio of fats and carbohydrates, which send a pleasing message to the brain.
(Me: All of us relish indulging in our favourite delicacies…)

A quote for the rest of the world…
"My grandfathers were a mailman and a police officer. My parents are doctors, I started a company. None of this could have happened without a welcoming immigration policy, a great education system and the world's leading scientific community that created the internet" – Mark Zuckerberg.
(Me: no empty boast and absolute truths; he has said it with great pride. In sharp contrast, people in all the states of our 'country' are so parochial that they can't stand fellow-citizens from the other states; the education is so shoddy that the affluent and even the not-so well-off parents send their wards abroad for education; and most of us are anti-science. Besides, most of us are without a sense of self-respect and hero-worship pigmy leaders)/

News of the day…
Google pays a 100-mn dollar (Rs.550 crore!) bonus to an Indian, some Agarwal, and another 50-mn dollar as bonuses – much, much more than what it pay to its CEO - not to lose them to their rivals.. Both are, of course, qualified from top American universities…
(Me: While the news has warmed the cockles of all Indians who are smiling from ear to ear and are thumping their chest about their being bestest in the world, we don't pay compliments to the broad-mindedness and large-heartedness of the US search engine giant, for all Indian company promoter-owners are notorious for their nepotism and employing themselves or their close own kith and kin at filthy compensation packages regardless of their merit. For the example, the south's largest TV network owner pays himself over Rs.50 crores per annum as OFFICIAL compensation)

Owner of $600 car fighting $100,000 parking fine.
Chicago: A woman is trying to get out of paying a parking fine of over $100,000. Jennifer F. filed a lawsuit last against Chicago over the $105,000 worth of tickets that police piled up on her car. The car was left for nearly three years in an O'Hare International Airport parking lot. The lady says she should not be held responsible because her ex-boyfriend abandoned the car. A judge dismissed the lawsuit last week and pressed the parties to try to reach a settlement.

Stolen laptop sending secret spy pictures
The owner of a stolen laptop has received pictures of the new owners from another country after he installed sneaky spy software into the device, which sends images to him when the family used it. Dom D, who lives in London, installed tracking software on his laptop in case the computer was stolen and now he has been getting images of people in the country who are using it, thanks to the device's built-in camera.
(Me: the report doesn't say whether the London guy got pictures of the other party in their birthday suit, too…)

A latest study report…
Men with heavy stubble are more attractive to women. Beards have signified wisdom, dignity in many cultures, and now research proves women's love for stubble
(Me: Maybe why the Hindi film hunk, Hrithik sports heavy stubble. I also remember the late Kaka (Rajesh) also had stubbles in the initial years of his super stardom...)

Late one night, a mugger wearing a mask jumped into a path of a well-dressed man and stuck a gun into his ribs. "Give me your money," je demanded.
Indignant, the affluent man replied, "You can't do this to me - I'm a Member of Parliament.
"In that case," replied the mugger, "give me MY money."
