BIBLE- THE GOD-BREATHED SCRIPTURE
Man is a social animal. So there are many written and unwritten precepts in his conscience, which bind familial and social relationships. We can see some undocumented principles regarding how we should behave in the family. It is when one lives submitting to these principles, that there will be joy and peace in the family.
There are some documented and undocumented behavioural rules for living together in the society. There will be happiness in a social life only when we live complying to these rules. Likewise, there are precepts that lead and maintain the faith of an individual. The Bible is the rule which nurtures and sustains the Christian faith.
The Bible is more special than any other decree related to human life. The specialty of the Bible is that it is God-breathed. Though many other books can influence man, only the Bible can give man a transformation of heart and a hope and assurance of life after death.
We read like this about the inspiration of the Bible by God:
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16)
That means, whatever God breathed on the writers, they wrote them as such, without any alteration. However, it was not a mere mechanical writing. The God breathed words became part of their life. Therefore, their writings are those which came out straight from their inner soul. When they wrote those words in their own literary style, it became a language which we all can understand. They wrote them under the full control of the Holy Spirit.
Since the Bible was written in an incomparable way, it has manyunequaledspecialties. A few of them are mentioned below.
1. In the Old Testament times, the God has spoken only through the Jews. We read inPsalms 147: 19, 20like this:
He declares His word to Jacob,
His statutes and His judgments to Israel.
He has not dealt thus with any nation;
And as for His judgments, they have not known them.
Praise the Lord!
2. In the New Testament, it was through the church or the Christian believers that the revelations from God or the Word of God was given. (Eph 3:11)
3. Gods revelations are not found outside the Bible. The Gentiles are ignorant about these God-breathed revelations. And these revelations inspired by the Holy Spirit are not available in their holy books.
Therefore, due to the special feature of inspiration by the Holy Spirit, the Bible has prominence over all the other religious books.
4. The Bible is foolproof. That means, there is no mistake in the Bible. There are no scientific or historical mistakes in the Bible.
5. The Bible is inerrant. All the references in the Bible are accurate unquestionably. They are 100% precise and unchangeable by anyone.
6. The Bible alone is the ultimate and authoritative source of life and faith for believers. We ought to obey the word whether or not we can comprehend and accept it. We should attempt to understand it. At the same time, we need to realize that it is not the degree of our comprehensiveness that determines the authenticity of the word of God.
The sinful nature of man always rebels against God. The sinful behaviour of man hates whatever that comes from God, especially the fact that the Bible is foolproof and inerrant. As a result, we can see a worldwide trend to question the authenticity of the Bible. Here the problem is not of the Bible, but of the behaviour of man to rebel against God.
Nevertheless, the word does not give room for any bargaining in the domains like inspiration from God, authority, inerrancy and foolproofness. None who does not accept these peculiarities of the Bible completely can be a true Christian. Perhaps, that person may be born again. But he has to examine if his approach towards the word is one with a complete submission. He has to submit his views before the authority of the Scriptures, without delay.
Have you seen anyone who questions the credibility of the word of God? He certainly is someone who rebels against God in some sphere of his life. The unique inspiration by God is something that is the basis of Christian life and faith. It is impossible for anyone who does not accept this doctrine completely, to be a true Christian.
