Apropos Mr Sam Ramani's ( who is living in the US for the last 50

years or so) mail in which he states that more and more Westerners

are taking to Vegetarian Diet is quite true. While it can be said that some

of the Americans and Europeans are shunning Meat and Meat products,

the same cannot be said of Indians particularly South Indian Brahmins. 

Many of the younger generation Pattars especially the Bachelors in the US

have taken a fancy to Meat eating and  are abandoning Vegetarian food.

The numbers are increasing alarmingly.

With so many Indian Restaurants and Grocery Shops around the US it is not

impossible to survive on a Vegetarian diet.  Firstly, however, one has to know how

to prepare the dishes and secondly one has to spend at least one to one and half hours

to rustle up one main and one side dish.

It will be interesting to note that even Gujaratis living in these places, who are  mostly

Vegetarians at best are consuming Meat,

Therefore, Mr Ramani's claim of more and more Indians abroad and even here turning to

Vegetarianism is far fetched.

There is an organisation called World Vegetarian Council/ Congress which

is in the forefront exhorting people to turn to Vegetarian food.  This

organisation is existing for a long time and it is engaged in propagating

the benefits of consuming Vegetarian food to the World at large.  They

also hold Regular Conference every year in one of the Global Cities where many Vegetarians

participate.
