There were two events in Europe which changed its history. They were the the reformation and the renaissance. But somehow they are confused for each other.
Reformation was essentially a religious movement started by Luther against the evil practices in the church. It reformed the Church which was steeped in corruption and other evil practices. But this did not improve the lot of the people. Instead it gave rise to religious violence.
Renaissance on the hand was a resurgence in arts and building activities based on Greek contributions. Though this too was mostly for religious purposes, slowly it led to the age of enlightenment based on science. It was this age of enlightenment which led to the Industrial revolution and the resulting boom in prosperity in the West.
In India we had Dayanda Saraswathi, Ramohan Rai and others. In Kerala we had the likes of Sree Narayana Guru and so forth. But they were essentially reformists doing to Hinduism what Luther et al did to Catholicism in Europe - dressing up ancient superstitions and practices in modern attire. This was like selling rotten food in attractive packaging. The result is that it led to total confusion.
What we needed in India were the likes of Galileo and Coppernicus who laid the foundation for the scientific temper in the West and the resulting industrial culture and the high standards of life there. In contrast the reformation in India set in motion by Ramohan and Dayanand merely pushed us further into the quagmire of superstitions and ancient social evils. Now the scientific temper stands enshrined only in our constitution. But in reality what we have is merely reformation of caste and superstitions which were the cause of our downfall in the first place.
In short what India needs is not the reformation of an ancient culture. What we need instead is an age of enlightenment and the scientific temper. Harping on our ancient culture all the time is not going to bring about this age of enlightenment and the scientific temper. What India needs is people like Galileo and Newton and not people like Luther and Calvin who only pushed their societies from the frying pan into the fire.

SirRaj Ram Mohan Roy was definitely influenced by British but he remained steadfast to his mother religion, He attacked Christian Missionaries for their conduct in converting business. He founded Brahma Samaj a shadow of which only now exists in Bengal. On the other hand, Swami Dayanand did not attend any School set up by British Govt, He studied in the good old gurukul and his influence over Indian politics is superb. He gave a clarion call for the country's independence long before Congress took up this work, Without English education, he introduced far-reaching social reforms and his influence through Aryasamaj he founded is always is on the rise. At present Aryasamaj has over 10,000 branches in India and abroad and had not R.S.S headed by Guruji Golwalkar { He was R.K Missionary earlier} stepped in, the country would have come under the radical reformist agenda proposed by Dayanand . The Hindu society would have got rid of caste distinctions and the obsession with Temple worship would have waned. The country would have marched ahead with clear head.VasuOn Monday, 18 May, 2020, 08:00:27 am IST, Xavier William varekatx@gmail.com [aryayouthgroup] <aryayouthgroup@yahoogroups.com> wrote:The educational system in India was introduced by the British and is still remains in force in India. All leaders in India including Sanghi leaders were educated under this system introduced by the British Christian culture. Consequently all our leaders either studied in British government institutions or in missionary institutions and this in turn has influenced Indian culture. It was because of the British Christian culture that leaders like Raja Ram Mohan Roy tried to reform Hinduism and its obnoxious practices such as caste and Sati.If the Hindu culture has something better to offer than the British educational system and culture why havent they done it even after 70 years of independence? If the Hindu culture is so supreme, why are so many Hindus waiting for a green card or citizenship to the Western countries which have been influenced by Christianity. There is Rajiv Malhothra the ultimate Sanghi Monkey. He studied in Saint Stephen's college which was set up by missionaries. Now he is in the US and has opted for a US citizenship after forsaking his Indian citizenship.. However he goes on preaching against the culture which has made him what he is. This is typical Hindu hypocrisy. On Sun, 17 May 2020 at 21:35, Mohan Natarajan mohannatarajan2001@yahoo.co.in [aryayouthgroup] <aryayouthgroup@yahoogroups.com> wrote:DEAR ALLA POSTING FROM ANOTHER GROUP - CULTURES DESTROYED BY CHRISTIANITYN MOHAN
