The benefits of watermelon are many. Eat this beautiful food whole or make a wonderful watermelon juice!
Be sure to use only seeded watermelons to make your watermelon juice... and at any time you are consuming this wonderful food.
Why Not Seedless Watermelon?
A seedless fruit or vegetable is not a natural food. These foods are supposed to have seeds in them, that's how they are designed by Nature.
When the perfect design of Nature is messed with, many things get thrown out of balance.
Seeds are a natural part of the reproductive system of our planet. If we propagate seedless foods and we eat seedless foods, doesn't it make sense that we are affecting our reproductive capabilities? Infertility is a huge issue right now ... could there be a connection??? After all, you are what you eat.
The benefits of watermelon are many, including;
Very hydrating; Watermelon is over 90% water and the water contained in this melon is the perfect water to hydrate every cell of your body.
Cleansing; Because of its high water content, watermelon is an extremely cleansing food (when food combining principles are followed and it is eaten alone). Do a mini detox cleanse by consuming only watermelon for a day or two.
Helps to control blood pressure.
Promotes weight loss.
Helps to lower cholesterol.
Offers natural sun protection; Watermelon contains lycopene which is a nutrient that naturally protects you from sun exposure, it is no accident that watermelon season is in the summer and that the watermelon originated in the hot climate of the Kalahari.
Highly nutritious; containing vitamins A and C, potassium, lycopene, beta-carotene, silicon and antioxidants just to name a few.
Relieves edema (water retention); by inducing urination. Watermelon has diuretic and laxative properties.
Relieves mental depression and fatigue
Rejuvenating blood tonic
Very alkalizing
Extremely delicious!
How to Choose a Watermelon
Like I said earlier, only choose watermelons that have seeds in them - avoid seedless watermelons.
Choose a watermelon that has a whitish patch on one side:
Vine Ripened Watermelon
This white patch tells you that this watermelon was allowed to ripen on the vine and it wasn't picked too early.
Choose a watermelon that has smooth, firm skin and that has a uniform shape (either circular or oval).
The best watermelons are heavy for their size.
How to Eat Watermelon
Is there a certain way? Yes, there is one rule;
CONSUME WATERMELON ON AN EMPTY STOMACH AND AWAY FROM ALL OTHER FOODS
Proper food combining explains this rule as follows;
One of the benefits of watermelon is its high water content. This makes it very easy to quickly move through your digestive system IF it is unhampered by any other food.
On an empty stomach, your body can efficiently absorb all of the nutrient goodness from the watermelon while allowing it to cleanse your entire GI tract.
But, if watermelon is eaten with other foods or while you have other food still in your belly, all of the benefits of watermelon are drastically reduced. Instead, the watermelon gets held up in your stomach by all the other food and while it is forced to churn in that warm environment it will start to ferment causing gas, bloating and fullness.
Avoid any sort of digestive distress and gain all the many benefits of watermelon by eating it by itself on an empty stomach.
Watermelon Juice
This watermelon juice couldn't be simpler to make. It's nutritious, hydrating, cleansing and delicious!
Perfect on a hot summer day or anytime you want a cool, refreshing drink.
Start with LOVE - this is the secret ingredient that takes anything you make to the next level.
Use organic watermelon with seeds (NOT seedless watermelon).
You can remove some of the black seeds but it is okay to leave a few of them in and you can leave all the white seeds in.
Cut up the bright red flesh, place in blender and blend.
If you are using organic watermelon, you can even blend up the rind as well.
That's it! So simple! Just watermelon in your blender (I use a Vitamix Blender)
