BEEF : LESSER KNOWN FACTS ...

A fact that No One Wants to Discuss / Nor Hear !!

1. INDIA IS THE WORLD'S BIGGEST EXPORTER OF BEEF.

You must have heard last year stories of beef ban doing rounds in the media. you must have also heard time and again different stories about people beating or shaming people in public for eating beef or slaughtering cows.

But no one tells you that we slaughter cattle at a mind boggling scale.

Not only we are the biggest exporter of BEEF in the world but we are also 7th largest in the world when it comes to BEEF consumption.

More that 2 million metric tons of beef was exported by India in 2015. Also more than half of what we produce is consumed in the country only.

However, majority of the BEEF is produced from buffalo but from the above chart you can clearly see slaughtering of cows is legal and makes up a significant portion.

There are more than 36000 slaughter houses in India (legal as well as illegal).

Last year the worth of BEEF exported was around $5 billion, more than the value of basmati rice that was exported which stood at $4.5 billion.

BEEF is a big and highly profitable business in India. However, it is a hot & risky area requiring political backing. Therefore, it must not come as a surprise that a lot of politician owns and run big slaughter houses in India.

Such Hypocrisy -_-
