Tamil Nadu: Most preferred by foreign tourists

In 2014, foreign tourists chose Tamil Nadu over Maharashtra as per country-wide data released this month by the Union Tourism Ministry. Tamil Nadu, occupied top position while Maharashtra now ranks second. Delhi, which is also an important tourist destination on the domestic circuit, slipped to the fourth spot, behind Uttar Pradesh. Tamil Nadu drew 4.66 million foreign tourists while Maharashtra saw 4.39 million visitors. Tamil Nadu registered an approximate increase of 17% in its foreign tourist visits in 2014 as against 2013. Maharashtra, meanwhile, registered a 6% increase in its foreign tourist visits in 2014 in comparison to the previous year.
