Tracy Smith lives in a £6.5 million mansion with more than 80 windows, 60 crystal drop chandeliers, a swimming pool, a helicopter pad and a bronze statue of a hippopotamus in the landscaped grounds.

Tracy gives her husband just £20 pocket money a day, maximum Sometimes he only gets a tenner.

The couple haven't forgotten the days of sleeping in a van outside the shop.

The story of Tracy and Steve Smith is a classic rags to riches tale, with plenty of hardships and hard work along the way. Both from the Black Country, they met at Wednesbury Business College when they were just two ambitious kids keen to make their mark on the world.

When they started out on married life together, they lived in a caravan, worrying about the bills and eating packet soups that Tracy bulked out with a few root vegetables.

'There was never enough money for new clothes or nights out. We couldn't even afford to eat meat that often,' she says.

However, what makes Mrs Poundland so special is that when the money did come along, it did not change her. Not one bit. Not where it really matters.
