Every society and individuals gossip. From this it is obvious that gossip has existential or evolutionary advantages. The process of evolution automatically eliminates waste of energy and other resources and if gossip were a waste of energy and resources it would have been eliminated thousands of years ago in the course of evolution. The corollary to this is that gossip is good for social evolution. The problem is setting limits to gossip. The question is how much gossip is beneficial to social evolution and how much is harmful.
