A new triangle!
There are triangles and triangles: a geometrical triangle, a love triangle and NOW a happiness triangle exclusively for your twi-light years.
The last one is called 'golden triangle of happiness' with these key elements – a loving partner, up to $1,00,000 income and a social activity giving a sense of purpose.
My nagging question is, how do we Indians make the $1,00,000 (Rs.60 lakhs!) income a year in our retired life?

How does stress affect my health?
Penn State researchers have learned that it's not stress itself that impacts health, but the response to stress in a 10-year study. Thos who were upset at the beginning of the study – and still upset at the end of the study – were more likely to suffer from chronic health issues such as heart disease.

Green leafy vegetables like spinach have vitamin A, B, and C, along with minerals like potassium, calcium and magnesium, which helps the body combat stress.

Whole milk better than skim milk for kids..
Giving kids whole milk may be a better option over skim milk, a new research published in JAMA pediatrics has revealed. The study also showed that two cups of milk per day is more than enough for children.

Hear it from Mumbai's leading dieticians on what to avoid to stay healthy…
Avoid 'diet' foods because although they are baked instead of fried, they are high on salt content – you are essentially replacing too much fat with too much sodium.
Avoid dairy products – your body doesn't assimilate them well. Unlike the olden days, when milk would be pure, diary is far from healthy now due to pasteurization and homogenization.
(Me: this is debatable. I, for one, would advise dairy products in moderation).
Avoid 'sugar-free' products. Read the labels of each item carefully. Breakfast cereals and some cookies, for instance, have a lot of added sugars that are buried in fine print under terms like malt extracts and fructose corn syrup. Often, products that scream 'sugar free' are laden with hidden sugar components.
(Me: Take most of the advices of dieticians and health docs with a pinch salt, mind you, their first job is to milk you of your good money!; more often they contradict each other. No food is 100% wholesome or totally bad. It depends from person to person, and upon the amount you consume).

Weird world…
Australian artist marries 600-year-old French Bridge
Washington: An Australian artist got married to Le Pont du Diable – a 600-year-old bridge in southern France. Jodi Rose travels the world and records vibrations of bridge cables for "Singing Bridges' music project. She wore a floor-length ivory dress for the wedding ceremony held on June 17 at the entrance of her groom with 14 guests in attendance, including the mayor of neighbouring town Saint-Jean-de-Fos. Though the union is not recognized in France, she said that is just as strong as any other marriage.
(Me: At least her groom will never desert her on his own..)

US govt spent $630,000 to 'buy' Facebook fans…
The US state department is under for fire for spending $630,000 over two years to win millions of "likes" on its FaceBook pages at a time of severe government austerity measures.
(Me: U can't blame the US government really coz. most of us FB members post things and more of mug photos of self and family members in our homepages and expect our friends to give their thumbsup, some request us to do the needful and some others even remonstrate if we don't! ROFL and LOL!)

Fact of the matter..

Desperately looking for a job, ANY job? How about this one, which is considered the world's most forbidding job description?
The candidate should be well read in literature in general and Dalkey Archive books in particular.
The person should be willing start off with a low salary and work their way upwards; he should possess multi-dimensional skills.
The person has to undergo a rigorous and challenging probationary period either as an intern or employee.
The person should have no other commitments (personal or professional) that can interfere with their work (family obligations, writing, involvement with other organizations, degrees to be finished, holidays to be taken, weddings to attend.)
The person should also know how to act and behave in a professional office environment.
Last but not the least, the person can get fired if they come in late or leave early without prior permission or are unavailable at night or on the weekends.
(Source: New York Daily news, quoted in Hindustan Times)
(Me: One dare say the last condition is the most forbidding one for all candidates, more so for us French-leave and –leisure loving Indians!)

A quote for our times…
One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well" – Virginia Woolf
(Me: A funny writer said in a column HT yesterday, there is enough for food for everyone in the world, if only the more-than-well-fed citizens of the affluent world cared. This is Utopian and asking for the Ram Rajya: if the affluent among our own Indians do not care much for their less fortunate brethren, how can you expect the people in the West to be so considerate and wear sack and ash clothes for the sake of the poor in other countries? Secondly, the poor and to a smaller extent, their governments are to blame for their plight).

"There are prison-like elements, but it's a really nice prison. You can't complain" – Michelle Obama, US first lady, on living at the White House.
(Me: Everyone's dream is to occupy the most-prized and –powerful address in the world. And her husband himself fought tooth and nail to retain the prison for a second term…)
