[www.keralites.net] Khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 17/4/13

He came to the fore with the runaway chart-busting number; "Kalangalil Aval vasantham" penned by the inimitable Kannadasan, from the smash-hit film, Pasa Malar, released in the mid-1960s. Srinivas always played second fiddle to TM Sounderarajan, better known as TMS, because his soft voice ill-suited to the baritone-voiced late Shivaji Ganesan (simhakuralon or lion-voiced) or the slightly nasal-toned late MGR and the two mega stars ruled the roost then. PBS initially for a few years sang for Gemini Ganesh, the third in the triumvirate but not so successful at the box office, later Gemini too opted for TMS. The other best known number of PBS was "Pal vannam vadivum kandu" from an MGR-Saroja Devi starrer, - Panakkara Kudumbam, I believe. Though, PBS did later become the voice the then Kannada marquee superstar, Rajkumar.

The Kalangalil number remains ever green because its lyrics echoes what a man, young or old, imagines his dreamgirl - his lover or the neighbourhood nymphs he fantasizes! - looks like. Most men would keep humming the lyrics – that doesn't exclude me either!
In seasons she is spring.
In arts she is painting
In months, she is Margazhi (a Tamil month that falls during Dec-Jan when the weather remained pleasantly cool due to the mild winter in the South)'
In flowers, she is jasmine.
In fruits, she is mango
In winds, she is cool breeze
In songs, she is the lullaby
Her peals of laughter is like carefree, innocent kids'

The "Anubavam Pudhumai" track he rendered for the late Sridhar's laugh-riot Kathalikka Neramillai of the mid-60s and picturised on debutants, Ravi Chandran and Rajashree gyrating in a chic, body-hugging outfit, in a make-shift tent, many would rate among the sexiest in Tamil films.

A senior citizen NRI friend who I haven't heard from for over a year phoned me from US this morning, and the first thing he did was, commend my Line Maro (pick-up lines) gags that I post in half-a-dozen yahoo groups, besides fb.

Moral: men regardless of how old they are fancy patoing girls (sweeping them off their feet)…

To my post yesterday on how many Indians have raised the bogey of radiation from cellphone towers being harmful to health and pooh-poohing it, an American friend of mine has commented thus…

the question of spurious radiation hazards from electrical and electronic devices came up a few days ago and I did some in depth research .... my conclusion: Any and all electrical and electronic devices emit radiation .... so far only direct, high intensity radar frequency radiation has been proved harmful to humans ... BUT... we don't know how the molecular field in the human brain is affected by low power radiation .... there are devices available to shield radiation from us in every day use ... BUT ... no shielding is provided by power transmission companies, cellular transmission, and microwave re transmitters surrounding us all the time ... if you want to avoid all possible radiation effects ... move to Montana ... or Tibet ...
(Me: As he has rightly opined, in anyone wants to totally avoid radiation from any source e.g. high-power transmission towers that crisscross several densely populated areas in mega cities like Mumbai, all electrical gadgets including microwave oven, TV and computers, they should better settle in the rarefied Tibet…)

Mother: Oh dear, I can hear your baby brother crying. Guess that he needs changing.
Lucy: Well, can you change him for a puppy?

Doctor to patient: "Take 1 tablet every hour until the drug-company stockholders feel better."
(Me: a very apt joke for our times when the patent-holders vs. genric drug manufacturers war of words continue unabated. Somehow, as usual, am at odds with the general thinking in our part… On the one hand we decry, at least officially, piracy and/or plagiarism in books, movies and film songs on the ground it affects the rights' or trade-mark holders who have sunk a small fortune in acquiring them, and also stress again and again that MEANS are as important as ENDS to drive home the point, whatever the noble cause, one shouldn't resort to ANY dubious means to achieve it, while on the other hand we have no hesitation purloining innovative ideas or discoveries/invention of others who have spent billions in R&D, apart from blood, sweat tears. It is understandable that the others employ "evergreening" tactics to protects their prized discoveries/inventions, thus ensuring super profits for their stakeholders. Please tell me which big-time industrialist isn't driven by such profit motives, and how come you don't expect them to be re-incarnate of a Gandhi or a Buddha?)

From the world of science/medical science…
How much muscle will I lose as I age?
The average American adult will gain 30 lbs.of weight between 30 and 60 years of age, and lose 15 lbs. of muscle. Muscle loss can start as early as the 30's.
Dancing builds strength by forcing the muscles to resist against a dancer's own body weight.

Harvard University researchers found that friends keep your brain healthy.
(Me: 100% true, though it isn't MUCH of a discovery)

Scientists create piglet using new GM technique
London: Scientists from a lab have now produced a disease-resistant piglet using a new technique which is simpler than cloning, paving the way for genetically-modified meat. The piglet called "Pig 26" is the first animal to be created via "gene editing".

Smart app to help lose weight..
Researchers have developed a new smartphone app that could be key to lose weight, enabling users to regularly monitor their food intake and exercise.

Weird world…
NRI devotee from US donates Rs.16 crores (over 3 million dollars) to Tirupati temple.
(Me: One would love to know how much this large-hearted, religious gentleman has spent on charitable causes like Dengue or Malaria eradication).

The four C's bosses would like in their subordinates..
(1) Critical thinking, (2) communication, (3) collaboration and (4) creativity.
It is found that younger workers would be more like to have these skills.
(Me: An obvious conclusion. So, fuddy-duddy old-timers move over… So, friends now you know the new mantra to curry (the fifth C) favour with ur bosses and be successful in your career..)
