Not-sooo-weird, but very much news of our times, esp. for Indians..
US judge orders man with nine kids to stop procreating.
A US judge has ordered a man with nine children to stop breeding until he can accord to pay for them.
Corey Curtis, 44, of Racine, Wisconsin, was told to stop procreating as a condition of probation until he can financially support his nine children from his six different women.
Racine County Judge Tim Boyle sentenced Curtis to the rare punishment as a condition of a three-year probation order for failing to pay $50,000 in child support, plus another $40,000 in interest. "COMMON SENSE DICTATES YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE KIDS YOU CAN'T AFFORD," said Judge Boyle.
The father said he would abide by the judge's ruling. "Judges, they make rulings. They make them. So, if that's what he feels one of my conditions should be then I'm going to abide by it.
(Me: I am one of those very handful in India that strongly advocate compulsory family planning as the unchecked exploding population is Problem No.1 of the country. Rights and duties/responsibilities are expected to go hand-in-hand, but in our country, people always hasten to demand for their rights – e.g. free education, infrastructure and highly subsidized food - even as they brazenly neglect their duty. Many 'enlightened' Indians these days have blithely joined the chorus to say, increasing population would give off 'demographic dividends' without explaining how. If 30% - or the mindnumbing 400 million in absolutely terms – of our population live below the poverty line (BPL) of Rs.30 (about half a dollar) per person per day, it shows there is no gainful employment or food for them. See there is no free lunch, especially so for all time to come. When people don't realize the importance and advantages of smaller families for themselves and for the country at large, the country should act proactively and decisively. If not – and we will never, because our political leaders have narrow, sectarian interests to serve, the country is doomed)
