14 Great Tips for Dog Owners

If you happen to be a dog owner and especially if it's your first dog, there are many things that are worth knowing. Even though dogs are our best, loving friends and will rarely complain to you, they are complex animals with complex needs, which a good owner should attend to. So here are 14 tips that can  make your life easier and your dog happier.
1. Learn to preform doggy-CPR
14 Tips for Dog Owners
2. If your dog runs away, don't chase it! Instead, lie down on the ground as if you fell. This should trigger the protective instinct in the dog and compel it to come back.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
3. Do your dog and yourself a favor and memorize these 10 food items - all very dangerous and even fatal for dogs.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
4. If your dog has bad breath, add some fresh parsley to his food bowl. Parsley has large amounts of chlorophyll which helps treat halitosis. (In humans too!)

5. If your dog doesn't cooperate when you try to brush their teeth - put the doggy-toothpaste on his favorite rope toy and have a small game of tug....
14 Tips for Dog Owners
6. When you wash your dog, put a shower cap over their head, taking care to cover their ears. This will prevent soap from getting in their eyes and from water to get in their ears – which can cause an ear infection.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
7. If your pooch got lost, grab an article of clothing you wore all day, and get their favorite toy. Take them to the last place you saw your dog and leave them there. Consider leaving the dog's crate and a bowl of water too, as they're likely to not have had any since they got lost. If you leave your items out in the open, leave a note asking people not to take them, explaining that you're looking for your lost dog. This method is more effective than running around, shouting the dog's name.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
8. For a delicious summer treat, cut up some apples, cucumbers or carrots (whatever your dog prefers) and freeze them in an ice cube made of chicken broth. Your dog will thank you for it!
14 Tips for Dog Owners
9. Keep dog food in a plastic jug – this would make dispensing dog food easy, clean and quick.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
10. A squidgy is the best tool to get that stubborn shed fur off of your carpet.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
11. If you have the habit of leaving your dog tied up outside, get a carabiner for a quick lock/release of the leash.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
12. Does your dog eat too fast? Put a ball (the size of a tennis ball) in his bowl. This will force the dog to slow down, yet still let it get all of its food.
14 Tips for Dog Owners
13. Did your dog just pee on the carpet? Don't worry about it! Simply pour baking soda or baby powder on the stain and let it be absorbed, then vacuum it up. This will get rid of both the stain, and the smell.

14. Last but not least – learn your dog's body language:

100% Natural Ways of Keeping Those Ants Away.

Ants, by themselves, are pretty harmless. Unfortunately, they almost never travel alone, and a infestation of ants at your home can be a huge bother, not to mention having to throw away food. Then there are the poisons that can be harmful to small children or pets you may have, or are just unpleasant to be around.
Here are some natural ways to scare those ants away and prevent them from coming back using just natural, organic products most people keep at home or can easily get at the grocery store.
Cucumber / Citrus Peel
Place the cucumber or citrus fruit peel near the place where you see ant activity. Citrus fruit and cucumbers are toxic to a certain tiny mushroom ants feed on, and so they avoid them.

Cinnamon sticks and cloves of garlic
Follow the trail of ants and try to identify where they entered. For example: Windows, doors and various holes around the house. Place cinnamon sticks or cloves of garlic in it, as close as possible. Cloves of garlic give out a strong smell and so it is recommended to leave cinnamon sticks, which have a nice aroma. If you do choose the garlic, peel it, cut it up and then put it down. You can put cinnamon sticks in your pantry to prevent future ant visits.

Vinegar
Put some vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the places where you last saw the ants as well as their points of entry. Vinegar harms the ant's sense of smell and destroys the pheromons they leave behind them to help them find their way.

Talc / chalk powder
Create a small 'barrier' of talcum or chalk powder in the ants' points of entry. The talc, the material found both in talcum powder and chalk, destroys their sense of smell and makes it extremely hard for them to cross, so a little barrier will help prevent the ants from coming in where you don't want them.

Black pepper
Sprinkle some black pepper on the trail of ants and see how they quickly disperse. Now you can track them and see where they came in through. Make sure you sprinkle some black pepper there, too.

Mint
Another handy tool that disrupts the little intruders' sense of smell is mint. There are several ways you can use mint to do so. First, you can plant the plant in your garden and around your house, close to doors and windows. Second, you can place some mint leaves on the windows of your home. Like the cinnamon sticks, this too can be places in the pantry to prevent future break-ins.

Cornmeal
If you encounter a really big problem with an ant infestation, you may want to use cornmeal. Cornmeal doesn't just prevents ants or makes them run away - it kills them. Ants see it as food but in reality they can't digest it and they eventually die. It won't kill them as quickly as poison, but it definitely works and is definitely cheap and environmentally friendly to use in your home.
