7 Foods that Prevent Gout

Gout is a disease that is caused by uric acid build-up in the body. Uric acid is formed when the digestive system breaks down purines in our food. A diet low in purines helps by allowing excess uric acid to be flushed out in the urine.

Here are some foods that prevent gout.

1.Pineapple
Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain that is an anti-inflammatory. Research has found that supplementing with bromelain may relieve the pain associated with gout.

2.Ginger
Ginger is a powerful anti-inflammatory that has been found reapeatedly in clinical studies to reduce chronic inflammation. One study in mice found that a compound in ginger may help to reduce the inflammation associated with uric acid buildup.

3.Turmeric
Turmeric has long been recognized as an anti-inflammatory by many cultures and has been proven in several studies. Some experts recommend a daily dose of turmeric to reduce the inflammation associated with gout.

4.Cherry Juice
Cherry juice has been used to alleiviate gout symptoms for decades. Small studies in Italy and the United States have reported sucess with cherry juice as a gout treatment, though scientists are not certain what mechanism is active in producing this result. Cherry juice does not appear to lower uric acid levels directly but research suggests that its antiinflammatory properties may play a role in reducing gout attack occurrence from 3-4 times per year to about once a year.

5.Hot Peppers
Hot peppers are rich in vitamin C which has been shown to reduce uric acid levels.

6.Watercress
Watercress contains moderate levels of vitamins and minerals and is reputed to be very beneficial to the kidneys. It may help to rid the body of excess uric acid.

7.Lemons
Studies have found that the higher a person's vitamin C intake, the lower the incidence of gout. Try adding lemon to your water every day to alleviate gout symptoms.

grow vegetables by simply placing the paper into some soil, adding water and waiting for nature to take its course.

The wrapping paper, called Eden's Paper, contains seeds which grow into vegetables once planted.

Currently, there are five wrapping papers to choose from, these have the seeds of carrots, tomato, broccoli, chilli and onion all embedded into them.

"For the past 12 months we've been testing and refining Eden's Paper, we've planted so many of our wrapping papers in the ground the crop would feed 5,000 people for a year!" its makers claim on Kickstarter website.

The product is made from 100 per cent recycled paper. The seeds are embedded on the back of the wrapping paper in seven layers of biodegradable tissue paper.

The Wrapping paper and tissue paper layers use no glues to hold them together, as glues are harmful to the soil.

The layers of printed paper with the wrapping paper designs on, and layers of tissue paper containing the seeds are held together through an embossing process carried out during manufacture.

Each layer of paper is interlocked with the one above it, sandwiching the seeds between them. This means no seeds can fall out of the paper, and ensures that no glues are used in the manufacturing process to bind the layers together.

Even the ink used in the printing process is vegetable-based, so this is an entirely earth-friendly product, its makers say.

Subject:  Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a contagious, acute disease of the liver that may become chronic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nearly 43,000 people contracted hepatitis B in the United States in 2007, although the number of reported cases is much lower because some people do not show symptoms. There are an estimated 800,000 to 1.4 million chronic cases in the United States. Globally, there are about 360 million chronically infected people, and as many as 626,000 people die of hepatitis B every year.

Causes
Acute hepatitis B is caused by the hepatitis B virus, which is found in certain body fluids of infected people. Chronic, or lifelong, hepatitis B is caused when the virus remains in the body beyond the acute stage.

Transmission

Hepatitis B virus can be found in the blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and other body fluids of infected people. Transmission happens when infected body fluids enter another person's body. The virus is most commonly transmitted in the following ways:
  • Sex with an infected partner
  • Contact with the blood of an infected person
  • Sharing of needles, syringes, razors, or toothbrushes with an infected person
  • Mother-to-child transmission during childbirth
Hepatitis B is not transmitted through shaking hands, coughing, sneezing, breastfeeding, or sharing cups and utensils.

Symptoms

Hepatitis B does not always cause obvious symptoms. Children are less likely than adults to have symptoms, but they are more likely than adults to develop chronic hepatitis B after an acute infection.
Symptoms of acute hepatitis B include:
  • Jaundice
  • Fatigue
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Dark urine
  • Joint pain
Symptoms of acute hepatitis B generally appear 3 months after you have been exposed to the virus and may last for several weeks to 6 months.
People with chronic hepatitis B may show no symptoms for 2 to 3 decades. However, about 15 to 25 percent of those chronically infected may develop serious liver disease that is not apparent at first. Chronic infection can ultimately lead to long-term liver damage, liver cancer, or liver failure—all of which can be fatal.

Diagnosis

Healthcare providers review symptoms and can diagnose hepatitis B with a blood test or a combination of blood tests, which will reveal the presence of hepatitis B virus or antibodies to it.

Treatment

There are no medicines for treating acute hepatitis B infection after you get it. If you have a mild case, your healthcare provider probably will prescribe rest, plenty of fluids, and a nutritious diet. While your body fights hepatitis B, you should avoid any medicines—over-the-counter or prescribed—that could damage your liver. You also should avoid alcohol during your recovery period, as alcohol may also damage your liver.
Chronic hepatitis B can be treated with certain medicines, but most people will not have complications severe enough to require medicine. Those with active liver disease may be prescribed one of several medicines to prevent liver damage. If you show no signs of liver damage, your healthcare provider will monitor you to look for liver disease, should it occur.

Prevention

The best way to prevent hepatitis B is to be vaccinated. The hepatitis B vaccine is usually given in a series of three or four shots given over a 6-month period. The vaccine is safe for adults and children and is routinely given to infants at birth.
