[www.keralites.net] Fwd: 20 Handy Tips for Using Lemons!

20 Handy Tips for Using Lemons!

The lemon is a citrus with a great aroma, that blends wonderfully with food and drink, but also has many other uses, thanks to its antibacterial effect. The lemon is rich in vitamin C. It is considered a strong anti-oxidant and contains 5% acid, which makes him a very useful tool.

So we know it's useful, but do we know how to utilize this potential? For that reason, we have collected 20 of the best things to do with a lemon, besides cooking with it!

1. Ant Repellant - Pour some lemon juice around any infested areas to keep them at bay!
2. Air freshener - An equal amount of water and lemon juice, placed in a air freshener, will supply your house with a nice fresh scent.
3. Cleab tub - An eqaul amount of water and lemon juice can also be a very effective cleaning supply against mildew and fungus accumulating on the sides of your tub and/or shower.
4. Disinfectant - A small amount of lemon juice can be a great companion to vinegar as a cleaning supply, and can help neutralize the strong smell of the vinegar. It will also greats fortify the disinfection.
5. Microwave - Heat up a bowl of water and lemon wedges in the microwave for 30-60 seconds. Next, clean the microwave. Those previously hard to remove stains will now be easily removed and the 'food smell' will be neutralized.
6. Refrigerator - Storing half a lemon in the fridge will help prevent unpleasant odors.
7. Cleaning Chrome / Brass / Copper - Mix lemon juice with drinking soda and dip a clean towlet in it. Wipe down the surfaces thoroughly and then rinse well and wipe down with dry paper to get them to look like new!
8. Bathroom - Mix 1/2 a cup of borax powder with a glass of lemon to clean the toilet perfectly and leave it smelling clean and fresh.
9. Faucets and sinks - Use half a lemon to remove limescale build up on your sinks and faucets. Rinse well and redo as required.
10. To make your laundry whiter, add a 1/2 cup of lemon juice for the washing duration of the machine and hang up the clothes to dry. A teaspoon of lemon juice in the machine during wash will give your fabric a fresher smell.
11. Dishes - To remove fat substances on tools, add a teaspoon of lemon juice to the dish soap.
12. Drainage - A mixture of hot lemon juice and drinking soda can improve your drainage and help unclog it.
13. Trash can - If you throw a few lemon peels in the trash, it will help to neutralize the bad odors coming from the rest of the food stuffs.
14. Cutting Board - Rub half a lemon on a wooden cutting board, leave it like that for the night and wash it the next day. The lemon juice will help kill bacteria accumulating on the board, and will of course neutralize any bad odors.
15. Glass and Mirrors - 4 table spoons of lemon juice mixed with 2 litres of water will make for an effective mixture to clean windows, mirrors and glass surfaces.
16. Furniture - 2 parts of olive or cooking oil, add one part of lemon juice to make a wonderful solution for polishing furniture.
17. Hair brightening - To brighten your hair, pour some lemon juice on it and sit for an hour in the sun.
18. Hair sofetning - Lemon juice mixed with a glass of warm water can be used as a great hair mask. Soak your hair in the liquid for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly. If you have a sensitive scalp, however, this may not be the solution for you.
19. Cuts, stings and skin irritation - dribble a small amount of lemon juice on small cuts, and although it will probably sting a bit, it should help stop the bleeding and disinfect the wound. In addition, applying lemon juice to stings should elevate the feeling of discomfort and itchiness.
20. Removing bad smell from hands - If you were handling something odorous like fish or onions, washing your hands in lemon juice is a great way to get rid of those odors without drying or damaging your skin.

[www.keralites.net] Fwd: The Holistic Accounting!

The Holistic Accounting!

Accounting must cover every activity in every field or to be more exact the ramifications of an activity shall be accounted for, in the environment, in the ecology, in the biosphere, in the human society and lastly in the trading unit, in terms of the particular monetary unit. The trader-centric accounting, now brainwashed in all, is making the trading unit become an exploiter of nature, profit hungry or loot hungry, the rat's race to loot being euphemized as competition.

In the trader-centric accounting today, transactions are first entered into the Journals or Subsidiary Books, from there posted to the various ledger accounts. At the end of the financial year, the closing debit or credit balance of each ledger account is arrived at and a list of the ledger balances called the Trial Balance is prepared. This Trial Balance totally trader centric, gives  on the debit side list of expenses to the trader, the assets at the end of the year, the total Sales Returns from the customers, Reserves in anticipation of profit, Drawings or the money withdrawn or capital withdrawn from the business and on the credit side, the various incomes, the liabilities, Reserves, Provisions for suspected losses or contingencies, and the Capital with which the business started at the beginning of the year. At the end of a financial year, the result accounts or the final accounts which disclose the net profit or net loss will be prepared, by totalling the incomes on the credit side of the trial balance and deducting from the total the various expenses as arrived at on the debit side of the trial balance after taking into account various adjustments. Then a statement called the Balance Sheet, with a list of all assets and their analysis as so much to be attributed to own capital, to liabilities, reserves, funds, provisions etc will be prepared. The Balance Sheet thus gives information about the net financial position of the unit at the end of the year after a year of activity, with the trader-centric view.

This trader-centric accounting was excusable when the business units were small and when the effects on the environment, ecology, biosphere etc were not pronounced. The lord of the manor, the church, the various religious oriented guilds which standardized all trading activity based on morality, created the needed protection from various pollutions.

Today the business units are global; there is cross and confusing ownership of the corporations with many of them holding the real political power via remote control often assisted by mafias with mercenary armies which often have taken over the governments of very small but independent countries. Very often those small and independent countries, via international banking and finance control the so called big nations. Wars basically are trade wars. The result is there are big toxic time bombs that can put to an end all biospheres because of pollution.

At the stage of the Journals or the books of original entry, every transaction shall be recorded not only in the existing subsidiary books, but also in the Ecology based Journals, the environment based journals, the social accounting based journals and the holistic journals which give a picture of the holistic effect of a transaction.

The trial balance thus gives also the list of ledger balances, covering the ecosphere, biosphere, environment, society and on the human spirit. As computers are making the human beings redundant in the trader-centric societies, the method of creating livelihoods is to put to an end the ravages of the marauding trade activities. Trade and commerce have become anti-social and anti-environment. The very computers that are threatening to create mass permanent unemployment or loss of livelihoods, can be met by shifting the emphasis from the trader to the ecosphere, environment and the society, by using the computers themselves. Today the small traders themselves are facing extinction by the marauding corporations. Unfortunately the governments themselves are helping the marauders, the most important being, and the making of savings impossible and by taxing fake incomes and by creating a permanent guilt complex in every individual. Economic life is forced into underground life by the tax on fake income, the result of which is the concealment of property in illegal constructions on the destroyed rivers, lakes, forests etc.

[www.keralites.net] Fwd: Some Facts on Blood Donation!

Some Facts on Blood Donation!

An adult has about 5 liters of blood in the body.

Typically, about 300 ml (anywhere between 200 and 450 ml) of blood is taken by a blood bank (depending on requirement) from a person.

The blood donated is recouped by the body within 2 to 7 days.

One unit of blood (about 450 ml) helps save 3 lives.

This is because, the blood taken from a donor is separated into its components (Red cells, White cells, Plasma and Platelets), each of which can be transfused into the blood of a recipient, separately.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to remove one unit of blood from the donor . Including the time taken for filling up a form prior to donation, a physical examination (BP and weight) of the donor and the time to relax after donating blood, the whole process can be completed in about 45 minutes to an hour.

The blood removed from the donor is tested for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis, Malaria parasite and blood group. In other words, persons affected with diabetes and taking medicines to keep diabetes under control can also donate blood.

Whenever you donate blood, you will be removing excess cholesterol accumulated in the blood, thus reducing the chance of heart attack.

Take some biscuits / cake and coffee / tea / fruit juice, after donating blood and sit (lie down if you feel giddy) for about 5 to 10 minutes.

The donor can resume regular activities after about 30 minutes of donating blood. Avoid the following:

Climbing stairs within 30 minutes

Smoking
Every year, our nation requires about 4 crore units of blood while availability is 40 Lac units (estimates differ - another info states that requirement is 90 Lac units and availability is 40 Lac units; all the same, there is a definite shortage of blood in the country for saving lives) Donating blood is a safe process - a fresh needle is used for each person and there is no fear of contracting any disease. The no 1 reason given by donors to donate blood is "I want to help others". The two major reasons for a person not donating blood is "Never thought about it" and "I don't like needles" Persons from the age of 18 to the age of 60 can donate blood, except when they are affected with HIV +ve, cancer, Hepatitis B or C (within the previous 3 years), seizures, syphilis, and women during their menstruating cycle.

[www.keralites.net] Fwd: Great News for DIABETIC patients!

Reverse your Diabetes!

By Sujatha Desikan

Animation Domination High-Def movies fox celebs animation domination

Diabetes - 'Do you have diabetes? No worries! You can reverse it'

Two years ago, when I was in Chennai on official work, I developed throat pain and fever. I visited Dr.Vijayaraghavan in T.Nagar whom I know for the past 15 years. The clinic was just the same and as I glanced around, I found two sentences written on a board that surprised me.

The first sentence read as -

'Medical representatives promoting Sulphonylurea and other related diabetic medications are not allowed in this clinic'

The next sentence surprised me even more –

'Do you have diabetes? No worries! You can reverse it'

I asked the doctor about this and he asked me to attend the awareness session scheduled on Sunday.

After I attended the doctor's program on Sunday, a lot of things became very clear to me.  The doctor completely rejected the notion that diabetics have to be on medication throughout their lives.

He also rejected common instructions given to diabetic patients such as eat bread, eat chapattis, eat a lot of fruits, walk every day, eat six times a day and so on.

Here is a gist of doctor Vijayaraghavan's two hour talk:

Man is designed to live without disease for 100 years. All lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol and thyroid and so on are symptoms and warning signs of our changing lifestyle. On the premise that there is no sufficient insulin secretion in our bodies, mainstream doctors prescribe medications for type-2 diabetes patients. This is totally wrong! All lifestyle diseases are caused by presence of lot of insulin in our bodies.

If alcohol addicts stop drinking, they will experience withdrawal symptoms like shivering. It is foolish to advise the alcoholic to take alcohol to get rid of the symptoms. It is equally stupid to prescribe insulin and insulin secreting tablets to diabetics.

The root cause of all lifestyle diseases is insulin resistance. The main driver of insulin in our bodies is excess sugar and carbohydrate consumption. It is important to address this root cause and treat this with dietary modifications.

To put it in a simple manner, if you suffer from typhoid fever and have high fever, prescribing paracetamol tablets is only going to bring down the fever. The underlying typhoid will not be cured. In the same way, insulin resistance is the root cause of diabetes.  High level of insulin is the issue that has to be addressed. The only way we can do this is to minimize carbohydrates and include a lot of saturated fat in our diet. This diet is called Low Carbohydrate High Fat or LCHF diet. You can quickly say good bye to diabetes if you also combine intermittent fasting with this diet.

If you are shocked with the very concept of 'fasting', you need not be. Fasting periodically is extremely good for health. Fasting intermittently is the only way we can quickly burn off excess fat stored in our body.  All these years, our bodies have been fuelled by carbohydrate like the petrol engine. It is now time to shift to diesel engine, by burning fat.

I will now tell you why you should minimize carbohydrate intake. When we eat sugar, carbohydrate or protein, it is all converted to glucose and gets into the blood stream. To handle the influx of glucose in the blood, insulin is secreted. As we continue to overload our stomachs with carbohydrates, insulin stops functioning well. Just like how you have to be pushed hard to be accommodated into an already crowded, packed bus, medications prescribed for diabetes increases insulin levels to push glucose into the cells and tissues for energy.

Insulin is a hormone secreted to handle glucose metabolism. Injecting insulin from outside or giving tablets to increase production of insulin causes a lot of undesirable side effects.

This is the reason why diabetics suffer from damage of various organs.

So, what is the solution?

You have to lower the level of insulin in your body.  The only way you can do this is to completely eliminate carbohydrate and sugar from your diet. Foods that breakdown into glucose in the body (rice, wheat) and all fruits have to be avoided. Along with the diet, do intermittent fasting and you can live a diabetes-free life.

You may wonder- how will I live without idli, dosa? Will I face any issues if I stop eating all these items?

For the past two years, I have been living not only without idli, dosa, but also without any medicines. My overall sugar control, measured by the test called HbA1C is now below 6. My excellent health is reflected by my perfect Body Mass Index or BMI, as I have lost 9 kgs. My waistline has reduced by 4 inches. I get good sleep at night, have no more mood swings, enjoy extremely high energy levels and feel ten years younger. Do not worry; there was no reduction in height!

Our bodies get energy from two different sources – glycogen from carbohydrates and ketones from saturated fat. Glycogen burns like gas stove, surging and exhausting quickly while ketones burn like coal stoves, in a slow and steady manner.

There is no need for any confusion regarding ways in which you can adapt to this diet. Our bodies are very intelligent. To start burning fat automatically, all you have to do is to eliminate carbohydrates and do intermittent fasting.

It is two years since doctor Vijayaraghavan explained all this to me. I immediately visited Srirangam, prayed to God and stopped all my diabetic medications (under the guidance of doctor). Today, I proudly declare that I do not have diabetes.

Please note –

1.The above dietary instructions are only for those with type-2 diabetes.

2. Follow this diet only in consultation with your doctor.

What to eat ?

- . You can have vegetable salad (cucumber, tomato, red, yellow, green capsicum, broccoli, cauliflower, radish, cabbage) along with tomato soup or vegetable clear soup. [You can also have a couple or more eggs for breakfast ( for non-veg ) ]

- One adai ( thick dosa)  made of legumes/pulses and red rice can be taken with loads of vegetables. Add onion, tomato, capsicum, etc. in minimum batter and make the adai.

- Non-diabetics can have very little red rice(best to avoid) along with lots of vegetables, spinach and salads.

- You can have boiled vegetables made of pumpkin, chow chow, broccoli, cauliflower and so on. Koottu and aviyal can be included for your lunch every day. [ For Non Veg you can have meat, chicken etc ]

- For fillers, have a fistful of groundnuts a day. You can also have nuts like almonds and walnuts.

- Add a lot of coconuts in dishes. Also have raw coconut for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

- Have green tea, lemon juice with salt, black coffee with butter/coconut oil or plain

- It is advisable to eat within a window period of 8 hours, that is if you have your breakfast by 9 am, have your dinner before 5 pm. A good idea is to break your fast in the morning as late as possible, say by 11 or 12 am and have your dinner by 7 or 8 pm. Most importantly, do not eat as if it is routine or compulsory to eat; instead eat only when you are hungry.

[www.keralites.net] Fwd: 5 Things Science Learned About Happiness Last Year!

5 Things Science Learned About Happiness Last Year!
By Jessica Stillman

2016 was a bummer in many ways, but the science of happiness made critical advances.

With its constant drip of celebrity deaths, grisly headlines, and political disappointments, 2016 was pretty much no one's idea of a banner year for happiness. But that doesn't mean the year just past was a complete wash when it comes to increasing human flourishing.

While most of us were struggling to come to terms with the horrors in the news, positive psychologists were hard at work trying to figure out how to boost joy and decrease suffering. They didn't come up empty handed.

The field came up with some fascinating and potentially useful findings, according to a recent roundup of the year's most interesting studies from UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center. Some will be of interest only to specific groups like teachers, parents of teenagers, and those with heart conditions, but here are the findings with relevance to everyone looking to make 2017 a happier year by far.

1. Getting tough on yourself backfires.
When people start a self-improvement regime, they often begin my vowing to "get tough" on themselves and accept no weakness. Big mistake, says new research. Being kind to yourself is a much better way to affect positive change in your life.

"Self-compassion may ... promote growth and self-improvement. In another study published in January, researchers asked participants to write about incidents from their life that elicited regret--like cheating on a loved one--from either a self-compassionate perspective, a perspective emphasizing their positive qualities, or without instruction. When questioned afterwards, those in the self-compassion group reported being more motivated to improve their behavior going forward than people in the other groups," explains Greater Good.

2. Humility has a dark side.
You could fill a good-size room with all the research showing the benefits of humility (particularly for leaders), but apparently even this much-celebrated trait has a dark side. While a kindhearted appreciation for others is almost always positive, lingering on your own limitations and unworthiness (another flavor of the characteristic that often gets labeled "humility") can be quite harmful.

A Canadian survey of 1,500 people found that "'self-abasing humility,'' which usually follows a personal failure and involves feelings of shame, low self-esteem, and worthlessness, as well as submissive behavior, is "strongly associated with low psychological well-being and poor health." Keep that distinction in mind next time you're beating yourself up and labeling it "humility."

3. Different types of meditation are better for different people.
Meditation is recommended as a miracle cure for everything from physical ailments to interpersonal conflict and greater focus, but it turns out this common prescription could benefit from being a little more specific. Different types of meditation provide different benefits, so you'll get the more out of mindfulness if you tailor your practice to your goals.

Want more details? Check out my write-up of this research from earlier this year.

4. Prioritize time over money for greater happiness.
Time is money, the old saying tells us. But science would beg to disagree. When it comes to achieving maximum happiness, the two are far from equivalent.

"In day-to-day life, we often face choices that pit money against time: to cook or order takeout, to walk or take the bus," notes Greater Good. This year research offered definitive guidance for these common dilemmas. "In a study published in January, researchers found that people who valued time more than money--who indicated that they would sacrifice money to save time, and that they'd prefer to work fewer hours and earn less--tended to have higher well-being: greater life satisfaction, higher positive emotion, and lower negative emotion."

So next time you're pondering whether to pad your bank account or give yourself a little breathing room to enjoy life, keep this research in mind.

5. Worrying about "manliness" can make you miserable.
Parents and educators spend plenty of time worrying about how girls are affected by stereotypes and the pressure to live up to ideals of the perfect woman (and the perfect body), but according to several large new studies, men also suffer significantly from these sorts of anxieties. Stressing out about appearing "manly" can also be terrible for your mental health.

"Man up. Grow a pair. Don't be a wuss. Could trying to live up to these platitudes fuel depression, anxiety, and other kinds of mental illness in boys and men? A wave of studies this year suggests that the answer can often be 'yes'--but a lot depends on which masculine ideals you embrace," reports Greater Good.

Which stereotypes are most harmful? Fret not workaholics and entrepreneurial daredevils--the ideals that drive men to succeed at work and take risks don't seem too bad, according the new science. The ones you should really worry about are the ones that suggest men should go it alone or be aggressive to outsiders and those who are different from them, the studies show.
