പുതിയ തലമുറയ്ക്ക് അത്ര പരിചിതമല്ലാത്ത നൃത്തരൂപമാണ് പിന്നല്‍ തിരുവാതിര. കളിവട്ടത്തിന് മുകളിലായി വൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള പലകയില്‍ ഉറപ്പിച്ചുനിര്‍ത്തിയിരിക്കുന്ന നീളമുള്ള എട്ട് ചരടുകള്‍. ഓരോ ചരടിന്റെയും അറ്റം ഓരോ കളിക്കാരുടെ കൈയിലുണ്ടാകണം. പാട്ടുപാടി ചുവടുകള്‍ വെക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ചരടുകള്‍ മുടിപിന്നിയ കണക്കെ പിന്നിവരുന്നു. പത്തുമിനിട്ടോളം ദൈര്‍ഘ്യമുള്ള പിന്നല്‍ തിരുവാതിരയില്‍ ആദ്യപകുതിയില്‍ ചരടുകള്‍ പിന്നുകയും രണ്ടാംപകുതിയില്‍ അഴിയുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. പ്രത്യേക താളത്തിലുള്ള കൃഷ്ണഭക്തിഗാനങ്ങളാണ് ഇതിനായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. അനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളോടെയുള്ള തിരുവാതിരക്കളിക്ക് ശേഷമാണ് 'പിന്നല്‍ തിരുവാതിര' അവതരിപ്പിക്കാറുള്ളത്. താളബോധവും ലാസ്യഭംഗിയും നിറയുന്ന തിരുവാതിരക്കളിയില്‍ ചരടുകള്‍ പിന്നിയഴിയുമ്പോള്‍ കാണികള്‍ക്ക് അത് കാഴ്ചയുടെ വിസ്മയമായിത്തീരുന്നു. ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണലീലകളാണ് ഈ വിനോദകലാരൂപത്തിലെ കഥാസാരം. തൊണ്ടയാട് കുടില്‍ത്തോട്ടിലെ കുറവണഞ്ചേരി ദേവീക്ഷേത്രപ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനമഹോല്‍സവത്തോടനുബന്ധി്ച് സ്ഥലത്തെ വീട്ടമ്മമാര്‍ നടത്തിയ 'പിന്നല്‍ തിരുവാതിരക്കളി'. ഫോട്ടോസ്: കൃഷ്ണകൃപ.
