[www.keralites.net] Bangalore's Art of Living ashram now flush with Paradise tree : - Many health benefits

Lakshmi Taru - the medicinal tree :-
LAKSHMI TARU (Simarouba glauca DC; Common names: Simarouba, oil tree, paradise tree or aceituno) is an important tree species growing in the forests of Central America. It was first introduced by National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources in the Research Station at Amravathi, Maharashtra in 1960s.

Seeds contain 60-75% oil that can be extracted by conventional methods
Each well-grown tree yields 15 to 30 Kg nutlets equivalent to 2.5-5 Kg oil and about the same quantity of oilcake. This amounts to 1000-2000 Kg oil/ha/year (400-800 Kg/acre/year) and about the same quantity of oilcake
The oil is largely used in the preparation of bakery products in Central America. In India too it can be used in the manufacture of vanaspati, vegetable oil and/or margarine.

The oil is free from bad cholesterol. It can be also used for industrial purposes in the manufacture of BIOFUELS, soaps, detergents, lubricants, varnishes, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals etc.
The oilcake being rich in nitrogen (8%), phosphorus (1.1%) and potash (1.2%), is good organic manure
The shells can be used in the manufacture of particle board, activated charcoal or as fuel
The fruit pulp, rich in sugars (about 11%) can be used in the preparation of beverages
The pulp along with leaf litter can be economically used in the manufacture of Vermicompost (about 8 tons/ha/year or 3 tons/acre/year)
The bark and leaves are medicinally important
The wood is generally insect resistant and is used in the preparation of quality furniture, toys, in match industry, as pulp (in paper making) and as fuel.

"The most important quality of these seeds is that it could be used in the production of bio-fuel. If India takes up the cultivation of this wonder tree on a commercial basis, it can rid the country of its fossil fuel bills," he added.

The Joshis extract medicine from the trees fruit, its bark, and also its leaves. They claim that the tree has many health benefits. "The Simarouba fruit juice has a unique taste and it could give the colas a run for their money. Besides, the tree also has high-quality timber. It is strong and, at the same time, light-weight. It is ideal for making furniture," he said.

"Simarouba was named Lakshmi Taru because when a farmer invests Rs10 for the tree, he gets Rs1,000 or more as returns," he said.

The ashram's nursery is the largest producer of Lakshmi Taru in the state. The forest department is using the saplings from the nursery to make the wastelands of Western Ghats green.

[www.keralites.net] HEALTH GUIDELINES FOR MOBILE USERS,Daily Positive Thoughts: : Time

HEALTH GUIDELINES FOR MOBILE USERS

Scientists can't seem to make up their mind about cell phones. Are they causing radiation? Yes. Is it harmful to us?
cell phone

They aren't sure. However, putting all their reports together, a pattern of tips and precautions becomes clear.
The most important thing you need to know right away, is that the phone is sometimes transmitting a stronger (and as such more hazardous) signal, while at other times it will transmit very weakly or not at all. It's a good idea to know when that happens and when not, as to avoid causing possible harm to yourself. Parents, take heed, as children are the most susceptible to damage by radiation at their tender years of growth.

Here are some important tips to minimize exposure:

cell phone
1. Keep some distance – Hold the cell phone away from body to the extent possible.

2. Use a headset (wired or Bluetooth) to keep the handset away from your head.

3. Do not press the phone handset against your head. Radio Frequency (RF) energy is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source -- being very close increases energy absorption much more.

4. Limit the length of mobile calls.

5. Use text (SMS) as compared to voice wherever possible.

6. Put the cell phone on speaker mode.

7. Use your phone where reception is good. If the radio signal is weak, a mobile phone will increase its transmission power. Find a strong signal and avoid movement.

8. Metal water are good conductors of radio waves so avoid using a mobile phone while wearing metal-framed glasses or having wet hair.

9. Let the call connect before putting the handset on your ear or start speaking and listening – A mobile phone first makes the communication at higher power and then reduces power to an adequate level. More power is radiated during call connecting time.

10. If you have a choice, use a landline (wired) phone, not a mobile phone.

11. When your phone is ON, don't carry it in chest/breast or pants pocket.  As it may harm your fertility or your heart.
When a mobile phone is ON, it automatically transmits at high power every one or two minutes to check (poll) the network.

12. Reduce mobile phone use by children as a younger person will likely have a longer lifetime exposure to radiation from cell phones.

13. People having active medical implants should preferably keep the cell phone at least 15cm away from the medical implant.

* While Purchasing a Mobile Handset check the SAR value of the mobile phone. It can be searched on internet if its model number and make is known.

14. The RF radiation is increased by Mobile phones when used in a car to overcome the window shielding. So try to reduce such use or stop it all together.

Daily Positive Thoughts : : Time

Daily Positive Thoughts: : Time
Time and Tide wait for no one.

Time
Consider time to be a great treasure. Don't waste a second.

Tolerance
The one with self-respect never thinks or feels that he is tolerating.
On the other hand, since he is tolerant, he has the strength and the
ability to tolerate difficult situations and criticism with ease. If we
are constantly feeling that we have to tolerate a lot, we should check
within ourselves if we can use some strength that is hidden within us
for dealing with the situation.

Self Empowerment
Our internal strengths create the foundation on which we make our decisions in life, how we relate to others and how we understand ourselves. For most people their strengths are understood but never made very conscious. They lie below the surface and are not openly talked about. Bringing them into our conscious understanding improves our process of self-empowerment.

To realize and review your strengths, sit comfortably in a pleasant atmosphere and answer silently the following questions:
A. Look back into the past and remember the times when you experienced your greatest successes. List the unique talents or strengths, which you made use of at those times.
B. List the specific features, which you admire in yourself.
C. If you were to take the opinion of your family, friends and colleagues, what strengths would they say that you have?
D. List your most valuable assets.
E. Now examine your answers and summarize. What are your main strengths?
Soul Sustenance
The Cyclic Functioning Of The Three Faculties Of The Soul
The soul consists of three faculties – the mind, intellect and sanskaras. They work together in a cyclic fashion. How they work together can be illustrated by looking at how habits or sanskaras are formed e.g. if you are used to scolding your children to get them to do their homework, here is what happens when you visit a friend's place and watch, for the first time, how your friend is doing the same to his/her child, you might think (done by the mind): 'I should adopt the same method to discipline my children, they never listen to me '.

Your intellect discriminates and judges whether that thought is right or not. Seeing others using the same method, and also seeing that the children are not being affected in any negative way (at least in the short term, not realizing the long term harm) and also seeing them get the desired result, you make a decision to do the same, which leads to the action of scolding your children. This creates an impression or memory within the soul, somewhat like cutting a groove in a piece of wood. This groove in the soul becomes a characteristic of your personality and is known as a sanskara.
Within the groove is recorded the memory of, firstly, the action of scolding the children and, secondly, the desired result from the action. Now, whenever your child disobeys you even a little bit, this sanskara is activated and the memory of the action and result associated with it emerge in the mind triggering a thought: 'Let me scold my child, that's the best way to get him to do things'.
The intellect judges the thought, remembering the proof of the scolding, based on past experience, and then makes the decision that it is alright to using anger as a weapon to discipline the child. In this way, the sanskara keeps getting deeper and deeper. The cyclic process explained above, applies to all habits, whether physical or non-physical.

Message for the day
Detachment adds quality to each and every action.
Projection: When we are detached, we will not be bound by the action itself, but will perform the action in a detached way. This means that we perform the action, yet we are not dependent on the fruits of the action. This automatically increases its quality. Then we would be free and uninfluenced by the bondage of the action.

Solution: In any situation where we find ourselves doing a lot yet with a feeling of not attaining anything, we should ask ourselves if we are attached to the task at hand. The more we are attached, the quantity of work that we put in increases at the cost of the quality. When we are detached we are able to give our best in all that we do.

[www.keralites.net] The Incredible Discoveries Of Indiana Bones

The Incredible Discoveries Of Indiana Bones

At some point, most of us have dreamed of riding across the Sahara Desert and stumbling across an ancient tomb filled with national treasures and glittering gems. If you haven't, then you've probably never seen an Indiana Jones movie. Paul Koudounaris, the self-proclaimed 'Indiana Bones', certainly takes that explorer's vision to heart.

When he's not digging up the dirt on charnel houses, the Los Angeles-based art historian and photographer is tracking down the remains of saints scattered around the world.

Koudounaris has always had a love for the macabre, collecting taxidermy and ghoulish human remains on his travels. His latest find, however, has shocked the relic-hunting world. Traveling for miles across Europe with nothing but a backpack and a camera, Indiana Bones hunted down the bejeweled remains of what some claim to be early Catholic saints. Hopping from church to church, Koudounaris ventured into the catacombs of some of the world's most secretive religious establishments to uncover the remains of thousands of 400-year-old skeletons, all of which were encrusted with the finest gems and gold.

On his adventures through the charnel houses of Europe, Bones has discovered quite the litany of spectral remains. First there was his discovery of St Valentin in a German crypt, then the humdrum haven of St Munditia within Munich's St. Peter Church. Indiana Bones' incredible discoveries have been marked as one of the most impressive and controversial finds in treasure hunting history.
