Ancient Ayurveda Beats Clonazepam in Clinical Trial for Severe Anxiety

Manasamitra Vataka
By Case Adams, Naturopath
Researchers from India have proven in a randomized clinical study using international protocols that an ancient Ayurveda remedy for anxiety outperformed the benzodiazepine drug Clonazepam (Konopin) in relieving anxiety.
The researchers, from India's National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), tested 72 patients in a hospital setting who were diagnosed with severe generalized anxiety disorder using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The test subjects were all adults between 20 and 55 years old of both sexes and most had experienced their anxiety disorder for seven years or more. They were also diagnosed with comorbid generalized social phobia.
The researchers randomly divided the patients into three groups. One group was given the standard anti-anxiety medication Clonazepam (Klonopin) at the standard prescriptive dose of .75 milligrams per day (.25mg morning, .50mg night). Another group received 200 milligrams of an Ayurvedic herbal remedy called Manasamitra Vataka (also Manasamitra Vatakam) – in two doses (100 mg each).
A third group was given the same dosage of Manasamitra Vataka but this was added to the patients' receiving an Ayurvedic treatment called Shirodhara therapy – where warmed Brahmi taila oil is poured onto the forehead of the patient.
The patients each continued their treatments for 30 days, and were evaluated at day 15 and day 30. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) testing was conducted along with Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) analysis of the patients' progress.
At the end of thirty days' treatment, the researchers found that the Manasamitra Vataka group on average had a 73% improved disposition according to the BAI testing, while the Clonazepam group on average improved 67% using the same scale. Using the HARS test scale, those patients receiving the Manasamitra Vataka plus the Shirodhara therapy saw a 91% average improvement in symptoms, while the Clonazepam group experienced a 76% improvement.
The researchers concluded that the Ayurvedic treatment not only exceeded the performance of the benzodiazepine, but came with no side effects. The researchers noted:
"Thirty days of treatment with Manasamitra Vataka reduced the anxiety, severity of the disease, increased quality of life and improved clinical profile significantly. Shirodhara as an add-on therapy to Manasamitra Vataka decreased the daytime sleepiness and improved the quality of life in the patients."

Manasamitra Vataka is an ancient and complex Ayurvedic formula

The Manasamitra Vataka formula consists of up to 73 natural ingredients including many herbal
Ayurveda is the world's oldest ongoing medicine, with a 5,000-year plus history of treating patients with various diseases. The first recorded surgery was also done by Ayurvedic physicians.
The complexity of the Manasamitra Vataka formula is an indication of the intellectual and scientific depth of Ayurveda. Many of the herbs listed above, such as Tulasi (Tulasidala above) – also called Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum) – have been shown in independent studies to calm and soothe the nerves.
For example, in 2008, a clinical trial of 35 subjects diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder found that Tulasi (Ocimum sanctum) significantly reduced anxiety at day 30 and day 60 of treatment with 500 milligrams, twice per day. The researchers stated:
"Therefore, it may be concluded that O. sanctum may be useful in the treatment of General Anxiety Disorder in humans and may be a promising anxiolytic agent in near future."

Fat Burning Foods

fat burning foodsThis article will make every girl's dream come true. According to Janet Starr Hull, there are certain foods that burn fat before it can before it can be stored in the body. Hence, calories in fatty foods are reduced. This is also because the amount of calories required to digest these foods is more than the amount of calories you gain eating these foods. So read on and eat your way to a thinner and fitter you!

Fruits

Fruits are an excellent fat burning food as majority of them are low in calories and contain a lot of fiber. Fiber helps to burn fat in 3 ways: it helps in speeding up your metabolism, aids in slowing down digestion and helps in extending a person's energy. Due to this reason, you can combine them with fatty foods like cheese and meats to prevent weight gain. Apples, oranges, limes, grapefruit, tangerines, raspberries, grapefruit, blueberries and guava are an excellent source of fiber. Moreover, eating watermelon eliminates toxins from the body and removes excess water. Have it when you feel bloated or have consumed high sodium foods.

Vegetables

Most vegetables contain some form of natural fiber. It is of two types: soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber forms a gel in the digestive tract while being digested. This gel not only requires energy to be digested but also helps you to stay full longer. Vegetables rich in soluble fiber include carrots, artichokes, eggplant, broccoli, tomatoes and celery. On the other hand, insoluble fiber moves quickly through the digestive tract taking waste and toxins along with it. Eating these foods when you're feeling overfull or constipated helps relieve these symptoms and burn excess calories. The vegetables which contain insoluble fiber are spinach, mustard greens, kale, green beans, legumes, Brussells sprouts and cabbage. You can reduce the gas caused by some of these foods by cooking them.

Proteins

Most of the fat burning sources of protein is found in seafood. Fish and shellfish are the two sources of protein that require a lot of energy to burn. One 4 oz. fillet of tilapia has 93 calories and four large shrimp have 22 calories all together. However, there are other types of protein that are fat burning. These include crabs, clams, mussels, lobsters, oysters, shrimp, sea bass and flounder. Team one of these up with a fat burning vegetable cabbage or spinach to create a healthy meal.
Additionally, there are quite a few foods which are high in protein that help burn belly fat. These are both vegetarian and non vegetarian options to choose from. Lentils, broccoli, kidney beans, corn and baked potatoes are all excellent sources of protein. If you prefer non-vegetarian food, then there is an array of meats to choose from such as lean hamburger, fish, tuna, broiled beef steak and roasted chicken. Plenty of other foods such as dairy products, rice, whole wheat bread, eggs and tofu also contain significant amounts of protein. Mix and match the ingredients while cooking to get the best results. The key is to make sure that your sources of protein are lean and very low in fat.
Follow these tips and experience the difference fat burning foods can make!

 MEDICAL TREATMENT IN INDIA.....

*AFFECTS EACH ONE OF US IN INDIA*

*WHAT UNETHICAL PRACTICES AND INVOLVEMENT OF THESE GREEDY HOSPITALS AND MEDICAL PRACTIONERS......SHAMEFUL OF TARNISHING THE IMAGE OF MODERN INDIA WHICH IS QUITE AHEAD IN MEDICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY!!*

*THIS REPORT AND OBSERVATION HAS BEEN WRITTEN BY AN AMERICAN DOCTOR.....MUST HAVE SEVERAL TRUTH IN THE SAID ARTICLE CIRCULATED WORLDWIDE!!!*

*pass to your loved ones who come to India for **treatment*
*This is a very important message and you need to share it with as many people as possible. Doctors, regarded as most noble, have all become businessmen and how, these details make clear, direct from the mouth of a highly qualified and respected medical professional himself! Do read............*
*10 ways how doctors in India loot patients** :*
*New Delhi, Sept 10 :**A renowned physician Dr B M Hegde has shown how a large number of doctors working in five-star hospitals shortchange patients in order to keep their management happy and enrich their own pockets. Here is what Dr B M Hegde writes*:

"*Most of these observations are either completely or partially true.
Corruption has many names, and the civil society isn't innocent either. Professionals and businessmen of various sorts indulge in unscrupulous practices. I recently had a chat with some doctors, surgeons and owners of nursing homes about the tricks of their trade. Here is what they said*

*..........**1) 40-60% kickbacks for lab tests**.*
*When a doctor (whether family doctor / general physician, consultant or surgeon) prescribes tests - pathology, radiology, X-rays, MRIs etc. - the laboratory conducting those tests gives commissions. In South and Central Mumbai -- 40%. In the suburbs north of Bandra -- a whopping 60 per cent! He probably earns a lot more in this way than the consulting fees that you pay*

**2) *30-40% for referring to consultants, specialists & surgeons.*
*When your friendly GP refers you to a specialist or surgeon, he gets 30-40%.

**3) 30-40% of total hospital charges**.*
*If the GP or consultant recommends hospitalizations, he will receive kickback from the private nursing homes as a percentage of all charges including ICU, bed, nursing care, surgery*.

**4) *Sink tests* *Some tests prescribed by doctors are not needed. They are there to inflate bills and commissions. The pathology lab understands what is unnecessary. These are called "sink tests"; blood, urine, stool samples collected will be thrown*.

**5) Admitting the patient to "keep him under observation**".*
*People go to cardiologists feeling unwell and anxious. Most of them aren't really having a heart attack, and cardiologists and family doctors are well aware of this. They admit such safe patients, put them on a saline drip with mild sedation, and send them home after 3-4 days after charging them a fat amount for ICU, bed charges, visiting doctors fees.

**6) ICU minus intensive care**.*
*Nursing homes all over the suburbs are run by doctor couples or as one-man-shows. In such places, nurses and ward boys are 10th class drop-outs in ill-fitting uniforms and bare feet. These "nurses" sit at the reception counter, give injections and saline drips, perform ECGs, apply dressings and change bandages, and assist in the operation theatre. At night, they even sit outside the Intensive Care Units; there is no resident doctor. In case of a crisis, the doctor -- who usually lives in the same building -- will turn up after 20 minutes, after this nurse calls him. Such ICUs admit safe patients to fill up beds. Genuine patients who require
emergency care are sent elsewhere to hospitals having a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) round-the-clock*.

*7) Unnecessary caesarean surgeries and hysterectomies**.*
*Many surgical procedures are done to keep the cash register ringing. Caesarean deliveries and hysterectomy (removal of uterus) are high on the list. While the woman with labour-pains is screaming and panicking, the obstetrician who gently suggests that caesarean is best seems like an angel sent by God! Menopausal women experience bodily changes that make them nervous and gullible. They can be frightened by words like "and fibroids"
that are in almost every normal woman's radiology reports. When a
gynaecologist gently suggests womb removal "as a precaution", most women and their husbands agree without a second's thought.*

*8) Cosmetic surgery advertised through newspapers**.*
*Liposuction and plastic surgery are not minor procedures. Some are life-threateningly major. But advertisements make them appear as easy as facials and waxing. The Indian medical council has strict rules against such misrepresentation. But nobody is interested in taking action.

**9**) Indirect kickbacks from doctors to prestigious hospitals**.*
*To be on the panel of a prestigious hospital, there is give-and-take
involved. The hospital expects the doctor to refer many patients for
hospital admission. If he fails to send a certain number of patients, he is quietly dumped. And so he likes to admit patients even when there is no need*.

*10) "Emergency surgery" on dead body**.*
*If a surgeon hurriedly wheels your patient from the Intensive Care Unit to the operation theatre, refuses to let you go inside and see him, and wants your signature on the consent form for "an emergency operation to save his life", it is likely that your patient is already dead. The "emergency operation" is for inflating the bill; if you agree for it, the surgeon will come out 15 minutes later and report that your patient died on the operation table. And then, when you take delivery of the dead body, you will pay OT charges, anaesthesiologist's charges, blah-blah-Doctors are humans too. You can't trust them blindly*.

*Please understand the difference**.*
*Young surgeons and old ones**.*

*The young ones who are setting up nursing home etc. have heavy loans to settle. To pay back the loan, they have to perform as many operations as possible. Also, to build a reputation, they have to perform a large number of operations and develop their skills. So, at first, every case seems fit for cutting. But with age, experience and prosperity, many surgeons lose their taste for cutting, and stop recommending operations*.
*Physicians and surgeons**.*
*To a man with a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Surgeons like to solve medical problems by cutting, just as physicians first seek solutions with drugs. So, if you take your medical problem to a surgeon first, the chances are that you will unnecessarilyend up on the operation table.
Instead, please go to an ordinary GP first*
